Any movies this summer worth looking forward to?

I can't believe nobody has even mentioned Space Jam 2. 🤷‍♂️

I'll take my niece to see it if she wants to go.

I may be in the minority, but I've been pretty pumped about Bill and Ted 3: Face the Music.

Every time that I see old footage of the Beatles, they look like they are having so much fun together. If that were true, they probably wouldn't have broken up.

That's kind of what Peter Jackson supposedly said when he started going through the 56 hours of film that they allowed him access to. They certainly do not look like a band about to break up during the Apple Records rooftop concert, which turned out to be the last time they played together in public. Supposedly Paul, Ringo, Yoko and Paul's widow Olivia were blown away when Jackson showed them some of the early stuff he had put together.

Hard to argue about The Beatles studio output but where would they rate as a live band? Among the pantheon of rock/pop performers, I would guess pretty far down the list, right? I mean they didn't do much except play their songs live. Even as they went out as solo acts, it wasn't a 'show' as much as playing really good songs one right after another.

Judge for yourself. This is a pretty awesome performance, imo, especially for something totally spontaneous and not really rehearsed. George's "Concert for Bangladesh" is one of the greatest concerts ever filmed. McCartney still puts on a great show to this day. I wish I could have seen them.

Good musically, yes. Not really charismatic, 'putting on a show' type of performance, though. I mean, they all basically stand in the same place, bob their heads, etc. Not trying to downgrade them at all, just they way they did it. Compared to The Who or the Stones or Zep or Kiss or, hell, Elvis Presley and Little Richard, just not dancing, strutting, leaping, etc. like many other performers did/do. I like Eric Clapton and his music a lot - not ever going to see him leap across the stage, land on his knees and set his guitar on fire, you know?

New trailer for Spiral looks good. Seems they are going back to what made Saw great and leaving out (some) of the Torture Porn aspects.

I've been vaccinated for a while now, so last weekend I braved a nearly-empty early Saturday matinee of Godzilla vs. King Kong. I'd wager the same theater will be much, much busier when I see Dune and Ghostbusters: Afterlife there later this year.

Never been a big fan of "going to the movies" to begin with. I totally see the appeal pre-2000s.. but the experience all around is just better at home IMO.

I go maybe once a year.. usually fathers day or if there's something I really want to see, but thats it.

The Lighthouse was the last movie I saw in theaters.. go figure, a movie that looks like it's from 1940 lol.

Reading this thread got me trying to remember the last time I went to a movie theater. It’s been at least 7 years, but maybe longer because the last movie I actually remember seeing in a theater was Dark Knight Rises (2012).

The last one we saw was 1917, which was one of those movies that really needs to be seen on the big screen. We only went a few times a year, but I miss it and look forward to going again. There's a theater up the road from us that offers everything from popcorn, Coke and candy to things like potato(e) skins, loaded fires, loaded nachos, pizza, burgers to full meals with beer and wine available. It's not cheap but it's a nice date night experience if you have a good movie.

1917 and Dunkirk needed to be seen on the big screen. I'll add The Revenant to that as well.

1917 was awesome. Should have won the Oscar for best picture as Parasite was horribly overrated.

Wasn't a huge fan of Dunkirk. Visually it was great, but the story kinda lost me and fell asleep. Might have to give it another watch.

Loved 1917 though.

Dunkirk wasn't great but it was a big picture that needed to be seen on the big screen. I think it comes down to cinematography. When you have a big beautifully shot film like the ones I mentioned they just need that to fully appreciate what went into them. At $10 or so for a showing for a hundred million dollar product movies are still the best deal in town.

The first time I saw Revenant I thought it was so-so. Since then I've watched it 3 times and it is now one of my favorite pictures. Sometimes movies grow on you after you watch them at home a few times though, too.

Loaded fires seems irresponsible

You may or may not be aware but Amazon Prime purchased the rights to the Lord of the RIngs franchise with a multi season commitment and are working on the first season with an anticipated release sometime in 2021. The 1st season is expected to be 8 episodes and it will be set in the 2nd age of Middle Earth which will be thousands of years before The Hobbit.
They also purchased and are in production for The Wheel of Time series which should see season one released this year, this is what I am most excited for. Expected $10M per episode budget and a solid creative team.
