I know there our a couple of you out there...and I figured it'd be fine if I posted this...

go to webcast.livephish.com tonight at 7:30 eastern time and Phish is streaming their concert tonight for free. They are playing the Nutter for the first time in 20 years. Last time they played there was a historical Phish show.

Anyway, it should be a good one!!

I never got into Phish, they always struck me as a band for people who were trying too hard to be different or unique. Kind of like, I like Phish (wink, wink). I'm cool!!!

Plus the same people loved Dave Matthews whose music is so bad even he hates it himself.

As a fan of them I totally get that. I know people who will go out of their to tell you about Phish and they hate every other band. I wouldn't hold those people against the band. I'd describe them as a lot of Zappa mixed with parts of Boston and Santana. So they're actually not that different, just come across differently

I wasn't the one arrested for child endangerment after being found alone in a bath house with a 9 year old girl and taking pictures of her.

So they pressed charges and said the pics were inappropriate. And the family said it wasn't a unfortunate misunderstanding? And he went to jail?

Do you have a point?

Back in the late 90s one of my buddies used to listen to Phish when we went on blunt rides in the country.

I liked this song, but felt it could've been said in eight fewer minutes ... and that's going from a fan of prog metal. I'm not familiar with most of their catalog, though.

Prefer Widespread Panic in that genre I guess. Never understood jam bands really. If I want 10 minute jams I just throw on some old ABB and enjoy superior musicianship to anything I've heard from Phish, The Dead or any of the jam bands.

Phish is improvised jazz/acid jazz in a progressive rock package; those genres or types of music aren't for everybody much less all thrown together.

But yeah, I'm a fan; there's nothing like it. Started listening in high school and saw about fifty shows during the 90s, been backstage and had various other wild experiences but I'm much too old to be bothered to go nowadays. I didn't even go when they came here a couple years ago.

Eh, what most people don't know about the Dead is they wrote amazing songs. I respect Phish's musicianship and sorta wish I'd gotten into them 20 or so years ago, but a lot of the lyrics are corny and don't come close to Robert Hunter and John Barlow in their prime songwriting years. But I will say that Trey Anastasio was a highlight in the largely-sloppy and unrehearsed 50th anniversary Dead shows a couple years ago. That guy's an amazing talent and one of the best guitarists ever.

They're too damn goofy. I can get into the jamming, long improvy segments. That stuff's fine. When they shut up and quit singing in this song and just played for several minutes, I liked it. It's the vocals that kill me.

I got through 32 seconds of that song. Terrible.

Ten seconds for me which was about two seconds into the vocals.

Studio phish isn't really representative and that song in particular is way more whimsical than the average song.

Something like this is more indicative of what phish really is
