Live Report: Real Sociadad 0 , Sporting Gijon 0. My first La Liga match - and probably only. Neither team has a top notch scoring threat. RS had a bit better of field play but not by much. Also, a few more scoring chances. Anoeta is not much of a venue. More of a track stadium with end seats way back from field. Quite hot. 20-25K. Holds 32K. Interesting that Moyes is managing RS.

BPL refs giving out straight reds like candy! Some of them deserved, most are not. I hate to see that. In other news, another Man City win with 0 goals conceded.

Bump this thread back up for the United States v Peru game tonight (7:30, Fox Sports 1). First of 2 friendlies before the USA-Mexico CONCACAF playoff.

Here is a good preview of tonight's game.

We suck. We are going to continue to suck until our younger stars get older then we'll probably still suck. International soccer is so frustrating.

I am resigned to the fact that USA will never be elite like the other World Class Countries teams, just like I don't think UK football will ever win the SEC until I see it. I think however, over the next 25 years the concussion, injury lawyers etc will keep bleeding the NFL to the point it's playing flag football. The NFL ratings will decline and the already growing English Premier League, MLS ratings and money will lead more young athletes to soccer, then team USA will be dangerous on the World Level.

Man that looked like UK basketball playing Athletes in Action's C team.
Still a long way to go, but Brazil is super elite.

I had no hope of USA beating Brazil. I just wanted us not to look incompetent. If we lose to Mexico and miss the Confederations Cup, Jurgen should be fired.

Chelsea's League title defense is over barely before it started, as many losses as all last season after only 5 games. They lose to John Stones at Everton who they made 2 transfer requests to sign but denied. Ivanovich is letting too many goals in on his side, I would use Terry, Zouma, Cahill in the 2 CB spots and bench Ivanovich. They have real work to do now just to qualify for next seasons Champions League.
The last 10 minutes Man U and Liverpool were electric, with Benteke scoring a bicycle kick goal to pull within a goal, but then Man U's 55million most expensive teenager ever Martial scored 3 minutes later in his debut match.

Found this on page 3, bringing it back.

Disappointing loss for the USA against Mexico. It was good to see them battle back after 2 Mexico goals, but that 3rd was such a killer. Great goal with only minutes to play.

While I know Klinsmann really wanted to be in the Confederations Cup in 2017 to prep for the World Cup is it that big a deal we are not in it?

I am not in the "FAR KLINSMANN!" camp right now. Let's see how WC qualifying plays out.

Not a huge deal missing out on the Confed Cup but it still would have been a great opportunity to get acclimated to Russia a year before the WC and face top competition. Pains me more the fact that we lost to Mexico.

I'm not sure they should fire Klinsmann but he HAS to change his approach to everything he does. Tactically we can't sit back and let opponents dominate possession. When it comes to the player pool, he has to stop calling in 30+ year old MLS players who just waste space. There are plenty of 18-20 year olds waiting for a chance and it does nothing but good to get them all the international experience possible.

I felt like the US was going to win if it went to penalty kicks, crushing 118th minute goal. I read Kinsmann has 3 years left on his contract and is very well paid so doubt he gets sacked before the '18 World Cup.

And the under 23 team lost at home to Honduras....Nothing going our way right now. I just don't know who is better qualified to run this team, but Klinnsman still has to get results. Right now he is not.

Well our Women won the World Cup, I guess we'll always be like the University of Tennessee in international soccer.

The US Soccer president resigned Jurgen to another four years before the 14 WC. There is no pressure on this fool of a coach.

Jurgen said he was making the Confed Cup a priority but the US craps out in the Gold Cup, thus forcing the game against Mexico in the first place. Jurgen says he was going to change the way the US plays. I guess that means sitting back and playing players out of their natural positions. Jurgen says the guys aren't in shape then over-trains them and has no backup for Altidore when he goes down in the first game of the WC. This guy will purposely pass over good players like Benny Fielhaber just because of his attitude towards MLS yet he did no favors to Julien Greene by building up the kids ego to the point where he won't play in lower leagues to get experience.

And to top it all off. He lied about Fabian Johnson faking an injury. I know he's still here until after 2018, but this guy isn't a good coach. The German players said as much.

Klinsmann's assault on Fabian Johnson yesterday was out of line. Lost a lot of respect for him on that one. Think it's time for him to move on. Never throw your players under the bus. Especially after playing 100+ minutes in heat chasing the ball around the field b/c your style doesn't allow for possession. The players weren't just tired, they were exhausted.

Noted the loss to Costa Rica yesterday. Team USA Men lost 5 of the last 6. We played at least respectable last year. What the heck happened since?

Not to mention playing him out of position.

I hate the own goal rule, a striker smashes the ball at net and it goes in but glanced off a defender on the way in, who cares, striker should still get a goal scored. I think whichever player on offense hit it last should get goal unless it truly is a stupid own goal like a defender kicks it back to his goalie and it goes in.

I liken it to Aaron Rogers not getting credit for a TD pass because a DB got a hand on it before it was caught, for a TD

What a horrible few weeks for US Soccer. Can't qualify for the Confed Cup and get utterly dominated by Mexico on our home turf. Can't qualify for the Olympics. Our U17 team, which was supposed to be really good, can't get out of group play in the U17 World Cup.

At least Copa America will be in the US next summer. Should be cool to see Messi and Neymar and Suarez dominate the US. Along with the Euro tournament and world cup qualifying, next summer will at least be entertaining.

That is a strikers goal unless the shot was clearly not on target hen put on target by defender. you referring to something specific that happened this week?
