I think it'd be a great experiment to get to the bottom of the "SEC SEC" chants in the middle of your team's bowl game. It is completely baffling. Anyone else hear it after Ole Miss scored at the end of the half? Seriously odd

Simple, they think they are the best and are proud of it.

Also, that pride is Southern. Yankees have made fun of them for years. I think we can understand that part. I remember being at the UNC game in the mid-2000s, they chanted "ACC, ACC" before the game(we were C-USA). After the 35-0 beatdown, I didn't hear that after the game.

So, if you don't like the chant - Beat 'em. Worked at Charlotte, Lexington(numerous times) and the Sugar Bowl! :)

Texas A&M fans were not shouting SEC after the VIlle and the ACC laid the lumber to them!

When did it work in Charlotte?

We actually chanted ACC ACC to the A&M fans during the final moments of the Music City Bowl.

What's truly strange is Tennesee, Ole Miss and Florida fans showing up at our bowl game to chant SEC, SEC when their team isn't even playing.

I guess it's because most SEC fans come from backwater burgs in the middle of nowhere so SEC success makes them feel important. While ACC fans actually went to ACC schools, SEC fans went to Walmart.

I think the noted sociologist George Carlin described it well when he said, "Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups."

Captain John Smith in 1607 Jamestown had it right. If you do not work, then you do not eat!

Simply not true. I personally know of MANY UofL fans that didn't go to school there. Heck, many of them didn't even graduate high school. And yes, I realize the same cam can be said of UK fans; just pointing out the hypocrisy.

When it comes to bowl games, a lot of locals attend even if their team isn't playing. My employer used to give out tickets to the Liberty Bowl every year, and people liked to go because it was usually a good game and the tickets were free.
If you live in Nashville and get tickets to the game, why not go and see some good football. If your team is Tennessee or Ole Miss, you will likely root for the only team you have a connection with: the team in your conference. But you wouldn't want to buy Texas A&M gear just for the game. So, you wear what you have.
I guess, then, you chant "SEC" to stay true to your team and show support for the team in your conference. Any bowl victory by a team in your conference makes your team's schedule look stronger, so it makes your team look better.

On the other hand, showing up at a bowl game that your team isn't in and behaving like a total tool towards fans of one of the participating teams is a different story.
