Any suggestions for some good local Kentucky bands to check out?

Loved Emarosa when they still had Jonny Craig as a lead vocalist, but the dude was a train-wreck. His antics and drug use would give any rocker of the 60's and 70's a run for their money.
His replacement is a great singer, but just isn't the same and not as unique of a voice. Emarosa also strayed from Post-hardcore to a more accessible alt-rock/pop-punk sound.

Also want to add, there is 0% chance anyone is going to listen to them or has listened to them. If it isn't country, classic rock, or trying to one-up the next guy on who knows rap more, then it has no place on The Paddock.

There's a band named Mona with a friend of mine from high school in it. Great 50's throwback rock sound. Kind of the warbly, southern, Kings of Leon vibe. The whole band isn't from Kentucky, but that's about as close as you're going to get I think.
I loved the Jonny Craig era Emarosa. I haven't checked out their latest album. I'm not a huge fan of Jonny's new band Slaves. Emarosa's musical style and his voice was just the PERFECT fit.
As far as some other Kentucky bands of course there's My Morning Jacket from Louisville. They are killer.
A band that's gaining steam right now around Lexington is Bad People. They are instrumental/progressive. I went to school with one of the guitar players. He's a great dude.
It was a great era. Latest album is pretty much described above. It's good, just kind of a new direction. Not as edgy or experimental. Feels like they took the safe route out.
And agreed, Slaves just doesn't have it. Very "bleh". I have the same issues with Slaves as I do with Emarosa's latest album. Jonny's vocals have a lot of RnB/Blues behind them, and they really come out when he's a front man for true post-hardcore/progressive bands. Some of his best work was with Dance Gavin Dance, which has been probably my favorite band for 5-6 years running. If you haven't listened to them, they are like Emarosa on speed. More hardcore elements to them, but their singers (Craig, Travis, Tillian) have given them a great balance.
Their newest CD, Instant Gratification, just came in the mail today actually. Perfect for long drive I had t a remote office.

Very good two chic singers who harmonize very well and gives you chills. From northern kentucky, going to be a great year for them as they just put out an excellent title called Barcelona. Their first CD together, these girls can sing, and pretty too.
