Since the folks here mostly seem to be debating how loudly we should be bemoaning the state of woe of this season, I'll try for a change of pace with a little discussion of tonight's game.

Spread at them -1.5, frankly I would have expected more. But that said, I actually think if it was more I might be inclined to take NU. Maybe a larger line would be a trap of sorts.

Our matchup zone gave them a good amount of trouble last time around, but our offense was completely stymied. That said, we have shown occasional signs of life over the past few weeks on offense, and we will be at home (though that's prob not worth much). My keys to the game (some of these may be self evident, but I'll throw them out there nonetheless for discussion's sake):
- We avoid long scoreless stretches, this seems to be the bane of our existence
- Keep our bigs and wings out of foul trouble - Pardon Skelly Vic in particular
- Push the ball in transition whenever possible - we sucked against their halfcourt D last time
- Get a meaningful contribution from at least 1 bench player

If we can accomplish ~3 of those 4 then I like our chances. The unspoken but assumed other factor, is that, given the two teams and styles, whichever team makes their shots will probably win. But generally speaking I expect a fairly close game tonight, probably tightly defended and played at a plodding pace, but I think this one is not that far off of a tossup. Let's hope our team brings the energy and intensity, plays loose, and makes a few big plays at the right time to pull out a win at home.

I think the Cats come out and play their best game of the season. They win tonight.

We need to show some efficiency on offensive offensive side. If we do, I like our chances.

Well I guess I get only partial credit.
- avoid long scoreless stretches is for sure a YES
- keep bigs and wings out of foul trouble is MOSTLY, though DP had some issues
- get out in transition is PARTIAL, we did on a few occasions
- get meaningful bench contribution was mostly a NO

- but we did outshoot them, and more importantly we played EXCELLENT team defense throughout

Also, most surprising stat from the box score to me is that we outrebounded them 32-27, with only 1 rebound from Dererk. 9 for Gavin, 7 each for Vic and Scottie. Nice team effort on the glass.

And nice team win, great game on the offensive end from BMac.

So great to see both BMac and Lindsey play well (in the same game, no less)!

Huge win! By far the biggest of the season. It feels like we have the wind at our backs now with 4 wins in the last 5 games. Plus, 5 of our 6 remaining regular season games are against teams below us in the B1G standings. And Iowa exposed how vulnerable MSU can be away from East Lansing last night. Under the right circumstances, we could take MSU at home.

Overall, 4 more regular season wins seems like a realistic expectation at this point, right?

But I don't want to took too far ahead. On Saturday, we have another huge game at Maryland. Maryland has more or less beaten the teams that we have beaten and lost to the teams that we have lost to, so we should be pretty evenly matched. Additionally, Maryland is now down to 8 scholarship players and only 3 front court players. We have a ripe opportunity to make a statement with a win on the road.

BMac was 8-11 from the field, including 3-3 from three point land. Can't expect that kind of accuracy every game, but it sure was good to see him shoot this well. If he can carry this hot hand through the BTT, then we could be serious contenders.

Scotty also shot decently, 6-13 from the field, including 4-6 from three.

Hopefully the team got its mojo back. Hang on for the ride, folks!

Key to the game was the stretch beginning in the second half at, IIRC, about 12-13 minutes when mostly reserves were on the floor. There just weren't a lot of points out there and Michigan went from third to fourth gear because they saw an opportunity to seize momentum. NU stepped up its defense and was able to hold on despite going through a scoring drought.
