If it's mid February that would be grea. It would give him 2-3 weeks of regular season games to knock off the rust and get back into game shape. I was never expecting him to be very good in his initial games back which is why I was hoping his first games would not be tournament games.
I frankly think Amile needs to be back around mid-Feb. to give us any chance of doing anything in March. If he's back by about the UVA game (Feb. 13), that would give the squad 7 regular season contests + the ACC tournament to get re-acclimated to him. Anything later IMO is just way too late -- not b/c I'm actually that worried about Amile getting up to speed mentally and physically (b/c I think he could even if he got back a bit later), but because I don't think there's anyway the rest of the guys can adjust to getting Amile back. In particular, when Amile & Plumlee are out there, the lane gets clogged and the guards / Ingram lose a lot of those straight line drives to the rim that are at the heart of the offense when he's not in -- and not to mention Ingram goes from getting defended by slower 4s who are not accustomed to defending on the perimeter to getting covered by 3s. Playing 2 bigs on defense will also make a big difference as well. I just don't think you can go from playing 4 out-1 in the entire ACC season to playing a more conventional 2 big lineup in the ACC / NCAA tourney; particularly b/c of how young we are at some spots. The alternative would be that we just go really small by having Amile / Marshall just split time at the 5. However, I'm not sure that lineup can hold up against a lot of higher-end teams with size (e.g., KU, UVA, UNC, Arizona, or UK to name a few off the top of my head). IMO, for this team to have any real success in March, we're going to need to figure out how to have success with the bigger lineup -- b/c I just don't think that smaller lineup will ever be good enough defensively or on the glass to realistically compete in the 2nd weekend of the NCAAs.
