If Marshall doesn't try to guard past the foul line we'll be ok.

We can beat Clemson without Jah.

If you remember in the Notre Dame game, Jah was in foul trouble and didn't play much of the first half. The team didn't miss a beat during that time either. I hope he plays but we can definitely win without him.

Clemson is no pushover. But, I think we could win without Jah.

My concern is that we will bring him back too soon and the injury could linger. I'd be willing to take my chances without him for a game (bit risky with a #1 seed on the line).

He certainly brings a lot to the table. But, it also seems to me that the other players have a way of picking up their intensity when Jah is out.

And, I think Marshall's post D is as good as Jah's at this point. So, as Laettner put it, if he doesn't try to be too aggressive, I don't think there will be a drop off defensively. The others would really have to pick up on scoring though.

I think Duke will hold things pretty close to the vest right up until Saturday's game. My gut says he probably plays if the trainers think he can't do any further damage.

To be honest, as someone who dealt with ankle sprains a lot growing up the only way it will get better is with prolonged rest. And Jah probably isn't going to get that for a while. It's likely something he will be dealing with for the remainder of the season. Hopefully it's just not very serious.

We absolutely can. It seems it's nothing serious, but I'd be fine if he sat for a game. It would be tough but we could do it.

I hope he sits out Saturday. Marshall only played 7 minutes last night. I would like to see him play 25-28 minutes versus Clemson.
Duke can go with Jefferson , Winslow and M Jones in front court when he is on the bench.
It can only help his confidence going forward to get extra playing time while JO rests the ankle.

I hope it's a mild sprain. We know he'll get the best possible care. If it's minor he'll play Saturday.

I think you sit him as long as possible. I will trade a loss now for wins in March. A sprained ankle like that is a miserable thing especially for a big man. He will be getting a lot of treatment for the swelling but the hardest part is getting those ligaments tight again.

Star Duke freshman center Jahlil Okafor will wear a protective boot on his left foot for precautionary measures and will continue to be evaluated ahead of Saturday's game against Clemson, the Blue Devils said Thursday.

The walking boot will keep weight off the injury suffered during Wednesday night's 92-90 overtime win over North Carolina in Durham, N.C.

The use of a boot has become common in college basketball to help protect foot injuries with players still able to play despite wearing them during shootarounds earlier in the day.

The arena went silent late in the first half when Okafor went down with an apparent left ankle injury after landing awkwardly on a hook shot.

Okafor, who finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds, briefly went into the hallway but was back on the floor with 45 seconds left before the break. He said he got the ankle retaped at halftime, and he played all 25 minutes in the second half and OT.

It was throbbing slightly after the win, but he wasn't in pain.

"Sometimes you can play the night of the game because your adrenaline is moving, especially for big guys," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "We'll see if he's going to be ready for Saturday. We can't practice tomorrow anyway, but we'll get him some rest. I would think he's going to play, but we don't know that."

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

If he can play I want him playing. Every game is big. If he is hurting then sit him. OFC

^A possibility. I don't want him out there if he is hurting really bad. And the coaching staff will not take that chance I am sure of it.

That's good news because it means he's ok to go. If he had a problem no way would Coach K play him. OFC

I could be wrong, but I just heard that he is not going to play. Or specifically, "Jah is not planning on playing". Once again, I could be wrong, but it comes from a very reliable source.

Just a note, apparently Okafor told a reporter from The Herald Sun, after the game, that "I was scared". I felt it pop, and then it started burning right away. I was just scared more than anything.
During my playing time as a youth (wow, that was a long time ago), I had this happen many times, and it does scare you. Duke has the best trainers in the business and I am sure they are giving him the best treatment he can get, and will make the right decision.
Go Duke!!

Well, I said it previously, if he cannot play then he doesn't need to. The team will just have to pull it together for the win without him. I'd rather him be out and resting than to play and hurt it more.

That's possible. I was basing he's going to play after what I heard yesterday....but that was before practice. He's maybe being advised to sit out.

If he's out it certainly makes the game more difficult. But this team has continuously risen when faced with adversity all season.

That said, this would be the toughest hurdle to overcome to this point if he's unable to go.

If Okafor cannot play, there is no doubt in my mind that we can beat Clemson without him. As I said in the game day thread, this is not going to be easy with or without him.
Hang in there guys, you should know by now that this team is "special". Clemson will have their hands full too!!
Go Duke!!!

I would love to see him sit a week if it means the ankle is healthy. Would hate to see him 50% in March.

I don't want to lose this game but I'd rather not lose Okafor. If he plays then he's fine. Coach K will make the right decision and what ever it is we don't need to second guess. OFC

Nevermind I just heard on ESPN that Okafor WILL NOT play today.....smart move i think and if he isn't 100% wed at Va tech then he probably sits again.....good schedule for him to sit a game or two i think

I'm not worried about Jah not playing today. Clemson is 7-7 in the ACC and 15-11 overall and if he also sits out against Virginia Tech I'm not worried either because they're 2-11 in the ACC and 10-16 overall, so I think that we shouldn't have too much trouble winning these next 2 games without. The most important thing is getting him enough rest to be 100% healthy for the end of the season and postseason.

I think we can beat Clemson without Jah as well, just not in the first game that we have to adjust to not having him in.

There is no way this doesn't change things considerably. And records aren't necessarily indicative of exactly what to expect. GT was/is in the ACC cellar and they gave Duke a game in Cameron with a healthy Okafor. Clemson is better than GT.

I think if you legitimately feel like you have a shot at a natty sitting him is a no brainer. Winning the ACC regular season is pry not happening so get right for March

Any other word or educated guesses or are we gonna have to live in suspence until tip time for a while.

I just can't see him missing only one game, to me it's play it out or take possibly 2 weeks off. Prolly not much in between, but that's just an uneducated guess on my part ;)

I would tend to agree. Maybe not about a full two weeks, but one would assume he probably doesn't play against Va Tech this week. Then again I thought he'd play yesterday....so what do I know?

Very surprised and happy how we adjusted to not having Jah in there. I did not realize Winslow would come out like Superman. This team should never surprise me, they always step up to a challenge.
