Then you really haven't been around many IU fans.

There are plenty other good teams to want them to be in the upper tier again. They are first and foremost awful people and deserve nothing good ever from sports.

I don't hate their program, I really dislike their fans, as someone else most delusional in all of college. I unfortunately have to put up with some IU fans as my wifes family is from there and her uncle just thinks IU is the greatest thing, has the cleanest program, and UK is the scum of the earth and they will be taking down banners soon. most of my life they have been irrelevant, I just turned 31, so I really did not care about them until I had to share holidays with and IU fan and learned just how bad they can be. Trust me by the IU fan's logic they should have the 2012 title cause they beat us. UL was the other fan base like this for me, although I did not like them I never viewed them as a threat again most of my life they were irrelevant until ricky p took over, before that they only beat us 6 times from 84-2001 and we typically beat them handily. but that all changed in 2001

This! ^^^^

I can remember those ***-hats calling us the "Cheetahs" during the late 80's scandal and early Pitino years, and their little red- and white-checked flat caps, and loud red "IU" scarves running around in the wintertime--they are and were like a pack of over-fed rats

Just because they have been humbled into silence doesn't mean they won't go right back to being the arrogant, condescending pieces of *ish we all know and despise

And I assure you if you think they have lost any of their venom because they are now BAD in both major sports you are DEAD WRONG

Living in Indy I encounter them every single day and have to listen to their "Cal just rolls the ball out" and "Kentucky players don't go to school" crap that Bobby Knight has sold them. Don't be fooled: BK is still their savior and they hang on every word that has-been speaks, especially with regard to UK

Everyone who "doesn't mind them" all that much just aren't exposed to them on a regular enough basis. They are ten times a worse, classless, and vile program than UL.

I hate everything about that has-been program and the people who support it. The way their fans treated our visiting fans and players in Bloomington in December 2011 told me everything I need to know about them and I hope they lose every game they play.

Can't stand Indiana
Can't stand creepy Crean
Can't stand Knight
Can't stand all those corn fields up there

That said, it's better for college basketball when they are relevant. Even though they're still not.

I have always liked IU. never cared for Bobby Knight though.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Indiana rise to prominence again in the Big 10 and our series with them restored. they are very entertaining because they generally hate US so much. It is funny.

would much rather see Indiana improve than UNC or Duke!!

Yeah, I pretty much want them to get into the top 25-30 so that they think they are getting better, and then get their hopes and dreams smashed with a first round tournament loss. Plus, if they stay in that 25-30 range, they will keep Clappy another couple of years, which is my first wish.

Unless you are three years old, you should easily be able to remember 2012 and 2013 when they had their best teams in years (back to back Sweet 16s baby!!!). The online fanbase was the most obnoxious I've ever seen toward Kentucky. You couldn't go over to Peegs without seeing a thread filled with legitimate hate and vitriol. A portion of that fanbase is just nasty. Sure Kentucky has its bad apples but you rarely see even the most delusional Kentucky fans spew venom toward another fanbase like IU fans do/did Kentucky.

I agree with the person who said don't fall into the trap - the second they make a Final Four or beat Kentucky at some point, you will regret not hating them from the start.

What you have to understand about the IU UK dynamics behind the "rivalry" (in quotes because rivalry may not really fit anymore) and why it instilled so much passion in the past, is that a large number of Kentuckians migrated to Indiana in the mid 1900s when Indiana was a big industrial center. Those Kentuckians took their love and pride for UK basketball with them and passed that on to their children. Many "native" Indiana folk looked down on the migrators and resented them for "taking our jobs." Since UK bested IU on a regular basis the migrators had something of their own, completely apart from Indiana, to be proud about; and that really stuck in the craw of the bigoted Indiana folk. To the chagrin of IU fans, there are still a huge number of UK fans in Indiana; and UK basketball remains a source of pride to them.

As a team, I don't mind IU much but their fan base...I can't stand most of them! I just had to listen to some lame Hoosier fan about how Kentucky is too chicken to play IU again...all because his IU team beat an overrated Maryland team!

Look...I agree that IU is starting to ball some and they have some really good guards but they still are not in Kentucky's class as a whole. Kentucky (if they bring just their B game) would mop the floor with IU this year. I haven't heard from this loser all of this year up until today. And I (knowing that he was a Hoosier fan) didn't say anything to him (good or bad) about how this season is shaping up. Now he is bringing the "obnoxious UK fan" side out of me once again. I hope we face them again in the tournament and beat them like we did Missouri. That would be very gratifying for me right now.

I went to the Champions Classic this year and out of all of the fans there the only ones that I ran into that were complete douchebags were 4 guys dressed in IU gear. One of them tried to talk trash while my friend and I were exiting the beer line. I just laughed and asked why they were even there and told them that IU isn't even relevant enough to be invited to an event like this. Guys like that are the reason everyone hates the IU program, that's exactly how all of their fans act.

This sums it up well. I have a brother-in-law who is a huge Hoosier fan (nice guy until he gets to talking basketball). I am the newest addition into my wife's family and not even knowing this guy for a year, he already (knowing I'm a UK fan) started ripping into Kentucky and Calipari's "cheating ways"! Unbelievable. If I just met a guy for the first time and learned he was a UNC fan, I wouldn't be ribbing him about their disgraceful "Academic Fraud" scandal. The sad thing is...I would have a lot more proof to back up my statements whereas this stuff on Calipari is just fluff.

This IU fan at my workplace starts this crap about why he thinks UK is afraid to play IU and I explained that Calipari was trying to work with rescheduling with IU and Crean was the one being difficult. He replied with "why does IU have to do it the way UK wants"? To which I replied, "because IU needs UK and UK does NOT need IU". I told him there are plenty of prestigious teams that would do anything for a chance to play Kentucky. I said if you want to play with the Big Boys, you better be prepared to step in line and take what scraps are given.

Oh that really gets in their crawl when you lay it out the way it is. But let's face it...IU is a dinosaur program that hasn't been truly relevant since the 80s. They need to learn that if they want to play with the Big Boys (like UK, Duke, Kansas and others) they better be prepared to accept any and all offers.

That's awesome, and it's also true.

I believe UK went out of its way to accommodate IU to keep the series alive. From what I understand, IU was the one who walked away and threw out a terse press release about how UK would not play them.

I hope we NEVER reschedule an annual series with those corn humpers. I only hope we meet in the NCAA tourney if they make it once a decade, just long enough to send them home crying again.

In all our disdain for IU, we have to remember their beating Duke in the tourney at Rupp. I thank them for that.

What can folks from Indiana do that Kentuckians can't??? Stand on the banks of the Ohio and look over into the promised land. That's why they're so bitter.

Just a little stat tidbit I like to throw out there every now and again for Hoosier fans :

how many times has IU been to the final four in 3 out of 4 seasons ?
answer = 0 ! IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED , never, ever, ever, in the entire history of Indiana basketball...

how many times has UK been to the final four in 3 out of 4 seasons ?
answer = 17 (that was my unofficial last count, there's been so many runs like that, I'm getting too old to keep up !)

I think Kentucky basketball is safe from IU in any other statistical category as well.

So, Nah, I don't really mind IU.

When asked this I respond that I am a fan of the University of Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles

and then start discussing Colt Football and/or Princeton Tiger and Indiana High School Sports

clappy has them winning. jr is good, but their whole team is ferrell. they have him and williams, contain either one and you win. compared to us they are garbage. they're playing hard moving without the ball, but overall their as soft as expensive toilet tissue.

I hope UK never schedules IU again.
The thing that makes IU more pathetic than even UofL is that they are "court stormers"! I don't know how many times in their history they have been guilty of this but once your program is considered among the top tier (or even 2nd tier) you should never storm the court no matter who you beat. I know that if Kentucky (in basketball) were unranked and they beat the #1 ranked team in the country that they would never rush the court (not under Tubby, Billy G or any of our coaches I can think of). It isn't the Kentucky way neither is it the way of any other blue blood program (Duke, Kansas etc).

Frankly, I feel that the "court storming" incident in 2011-2012 should be a reason to consider IU a mid-major program. It's as if the IU fan base has forgotten that they have 5 titles (even if they were eons ago). Didn't Coach Rupp once say "act like you've been there"? Well you would never know IU has ever been there the way they carry on about how exciting getting to the sweet sixteen is. I mean IU has been to 21 sweet sixteens in their history and 11 Elite Eights...granted that isn't anywhere near as many as UK has but still.
