Anybody starting to get the vibe that Mullen 2011 = Jackie 2001

Both were completely passed up for jobs that both seemed pretty logical for them (Bama for Jackie and Florida for Mullen). The common story is that Jackie never even got a phone call so he could have the opportunity to say "thanks but no thanks," and I'm beginning to think that was the case for Dan Mullen as well, even though many were saying the job was his to turn down. Might he have gotten a little miffed over the rejection and it's stewed in him over the last several months?

Mullen, passed up? I think he turned down more jobs than what passed him by, if any.

at MSU I don't really get the comparison. However, Dan Mullen certainly had as much experience as Muschamp. I don't see Mullen sulking that long over it. It's more like it's his third year and we didn't recruit enough linemen or receivers in the first three recruiting classes.

The parallels between Jackie 2001 and Mullen 2011 don't go very far in the sense that they have two different styles and are at diametrically opposed ends of a head coaching career (2 years before the end vs. 2 years after the beginning), and the end results in a couple years most probably will not be the same.

Reason I say that is because it is rare that we have a year with a crappy team and a manageable schedule.

We beat UAB, and then we're 3-3. Then we have South Carolina- maybe Tyler Russell is healthy by then and maybe Carmon is back at LT. Who knows? We probably lose to South Carolina, but then we get two weeks to get ready for UK, and then we play UT-Martin. That should make us 5-4 with Alabama coming into Starkville. We lost to them, and then probably to Arkansas as well, making us 5-6 going into the Egg Bowl. Hopefully we win the Egg Bowl and go to the Liberty Bowl or whatever they call the bowl in Birmingham- I'll just call it the Hall of Fame Bowl.
