My buddies and I are heading to the Purdue game. Anyone on here been there before and have any recommendations on things to do out there? Any good breweries or bars with a large beer selection? Any good places to eat? Any help is appreciated!

Pre-game, full band pep rally on a sloped field conducive to eating and drinking. Good event. No Ferris wheel, however.

Try to get in to eat at McGraw's on the outskirts of town. Todd runs a great steakhouse. There are plenty of places to stay. The downtown scene is okay. Nine Irish Brothers is a great place to drink and have some food. The Tap is a chain and has decent food.

You will either have to walk to the stadium from afar or pay $30 to park. A good tip is to park down by the Armory and walk to the stadium for free. Street spots are open if you get there early. Fans are generally friendly and will engage in fun banter. Never really see things get rough unless you have an IU shirt on. If I was in town, I would have probably coordinated something.

If you want to stay close, call the Union hotel now. They have a great bar by 8 eleven, which is also a good place to eat. The Rutgers baseball Stayed there. There ate a few hotels down by the levy. Downtown Lafayette has some great places to go. We love the Black Sparrow for food and good drinks. The bartender makes some great concoctions.

As we get closer, reach out. I will say in closing that it is a smaller community so book now! Things may already be filled.

Fun facts.
1. The tower clock uses IIII as opposed to IV for the roman numeral 4. The IV looked too much like IU, and the Purdue designers did not want to give IU any thing to claim

2. Take a walk through the Armstrong building. Neil was arguably Purdue'a most famous alumnus, although I have heard a bad argument for Orville Redenbacher.🤷‍♂️

3. Check out the Brees Sports center, Mackey, and the inside and outside football facilities. They are what we need to have as a minimum.

4. Try to stop by the 500 in Indianapolis before driving up.

I was there in the 97, very boring town, I think they had one our two bars on campus. Game day was a nice atmosphere around town especially for family/kids. Some of the nicest fraternity/sorority houses I've ever seen. I do remember the mascot Locomotive driving around town blowing its horn.

We're heading out there as our annual road trip this year. I have family in West Lafayatte, but I'm not sure what our itinerary is yet. Once I find out the good spots I'll try to throw some out there.

It has picked up significantly since then, but there is not really a bar near campus. Gary Brackett had a restaurant near the stadium, but he sold it years ago. I always loved seeing the Block R next to Purdue.

Since then, they have done some work by Chauncey and downtown Lafayette is better. My wife was at Purdue from 91-92 for grad school. It is much better now. The problem near campus is that the area is largely residential. Stay down by the Hilton or Hampton hotels on the Levy. You can almost stay north of the stadium by the Walmart. The bar scene is okay, better by Chauncey which is walking distance to the Union hotel, the Hampton and Hilton. The tailgate scene is also very good if you are by the stadium. They really do not hassle people.

This will be our 3rd Away game of this upcoming season.
Never been to Purdue ..looking forward to a good game.
There is some hype around Odom, but I think it is going to be a long year here.
I will add that when I go to the Rutgers-IU games, I buy through stubhub. I have sat in there Alumni club decked in Rutgers gear a few times. People were very friendly. You will largely experience that at Purdue. Parking is tough, so read above and heed my advice. It should be a great day.

I totally forgot to say that you MUST GO TO HARRY'S Chocolate shop. It is a prohibition era bar near the student union and Union hotel. Their motto is go Ugly Early. They literally converted it to a Chocolate shop during prohibition, but they had a trap door to drink in the speakeasy in the basement. They used to give tours. It is THE college bar for Purdue. It is also packed on game day.

You need to get there very early as the Purdue students do the Breakfast Club on gamedays. Basically they dress in costumes or pajamas and open the bars around 7 or 8 AM. It is a game day ritual that alums take part in as well. There are some parking garages nearby, so park there and then walk across campus to the stadium. Twenty minute walk.

If you are in downtown Lafayette, The Vault is another good bar according to my grad student. Nom Noms is also a nicer place with great margaritas and Mexican drinks.
