Either these guys are just role players or Pope and staff really miscalculated there abilty. I know we havent seen JQ yet but the others just seem blah. And our defense still sucks. I would argue Chandler and Moreno are our best players. Noah as high mention which is kind of alarming. Also what the hell Ortega?

I think we have more good players than almost any team. I also think we have no great players. If this is true, I have faith that Pope would adjust for next year's transfers/recruiting of players. It's just that this year could get rough at times.
I agree but my overall concern is the lack of focus and intensity from the players we have. Also some of the gosh darn awful three point attempts from players who really shouldn't be shooting them.

They are role players like 6th men from of other schools. They are men though and should be good players but we have to get our superstars on this team Johnson chandler moreno. These are our most talented along with Williams.

Lots of people are really disappointed in them or worried but I'm not part of that crowd. The 2 highest profile ones have played about 10 minutes combined, the next two have been 2 of our top 4 players, and Williams was never projected to be a starter and is coming along nicely.
Almost any team in the country would LOVE to have Denzel Aberdeen on their team. We haven’t seen JQ yet and Lowe is out with injury.

Not throwing in the towel yet but the lack of intensity and just be ready for the moment scares me. You seen it in the Louisville and Michigan St game as just not being ready for the moment. They fought back but in each game the lack of focus and intensity cost us the game due to getting down by large margins.

I do wonder if the end of the 5th year senior has sort of leveled the edge that experienced transfers had over younger talent. For instance, we'd have never been able to grab Carr, Butler or Jrob.. all 3 I believe spent 4 years honing their craft to eventually become highly sought after transfers. That means not only getting better and being more experienced, but also using that additional year showed more proof of their value (less chance of just an outlier year).

Point being, these transfers are not 5th year guys. They are a year younger and year with less experience (or for some, even less). Might be part of the difference we are seeing.

50 point win minus JQ, Mo and Lowe. The misery here is something else. 😂
We were losing to one of the worst DI programs in the country at the under 8 timeout. Gotten absolutely drug by the only two teams with a pulse that we’ve played. Had we played those 12+ mins against even a top 150 team we’d have been down double digits. But sure, flex on the end result vs Tennessee effing Tech. Don’t look at the process. Don’t view it with a shred of anything but drinking Popes relentless positivity crap. Holler at me next week. Please. If you do, it means I was dead wrong. And I hope like hell I am.

Concerned with our transfer class and coach! We missed on all of our tier 1 options and it’s showing now. These next 4 games (not including NC Central) are really gonna dictate how Popes tenure goes. If he goes 1-3, some serious conversations are gonna be occurring all around the fanbase. Look at Dusty May (proven Final 4 coach prior to arriving at UM) in year 2 and he has Michigan rolling. Meanwhile the winningest program in college basketball made a lazy hire of an unproven coach (I do really like Pope and want him to succeed) because our AD/BOT are too lazy/reluctant to make a splash hire. I will celebrate the day Mitch steps down🤷‍♂️

I’m also concerned about next year’s class. Where’s the recruits? Man some top 40 players would at least show me Pope has some kind of vision, but we have nothing but whiffs and delusional hopes for Collins.

With all the rumors of turmoil, what happens to the current players? Do they leave in exodus? Are we starting over again? This team is $22 million and it looks like this, what does next year’s team look like if boosters decide to cut the money due to dissatisfaction from the results? Then what?

No recruits to look forward to, probably looking at a total overhaul of the roster in the offseason like before Pope’s first season. It’s just too much for a 3rd year coach when other 3rd year coaches will have already established themselves.

Dusty May has Michigan 7-0 and rolling. In year 2. Brought in a monster class too. I have no sympathy.

Even though JQ hasn’t played in a game yet, I think he’s going to be really, really good. The team has to improve on the perimeter defensively as the season progresses and hopefully JQ dominates in the paint like I think he’s capable of. It’s still early, we can’t give up on these guys.

Here’s a fact:

The ‘25/ ‘26 UK team is comprised of Pope’s 3rd or 4th option at every position except for Oweh, who was grandfathered in by default.

Lowe= 4th option PG starter
Aberdeen= 3rd/ 4th option CG
Johnson= 4th option KY kid CG
Moreno= 3rd option backup C
JQ= Injured 3rd option starting C
Jelevic= 3rd option backup PF
Mo D= 3rd option PF starter
Williams= 4th option mid major backup 3/4

Go back and revisit the off season recruiting cycle If you think this is false.

Not totally off base but not totally accurate either.
No way to access what option a particular player was.
To do that you would have to have inside info of where the staff actually had each player in regards to " want"

You never know how a lot of the transfers will do against better competition, a bigger stage, etc.

People here acted like Donovan Dent was the next Anthony Edwards and that it was a catastrophic miss. His numbers so far at UCLA are disgusting. The usual suspects also bitched about Xaivian Lee going to Florida. He's been awful.

Dedan Thomas and Silas Demary are putting up good all-around numbers but both well under 30 percent from 3-point range. That ain't gonna fly with Billy Joe Wildcat.

Point is, a lot of our other targets aren't exactly lighting it up either. A healthy Lowe would've been pretty dang good, imo. Just sucks his shoulder might fall off next time he runs into a screen.

Our returnees have been the bigger disappointment. Not trying to rip on Oweh, but let's be honest, there's a reason why he's still in college. And I'm not sure the personnel surrounding him helps, especially when paint-cloggers like Mo and Garrison are are on the court with him. But he's still knocking off rust so I'm not that concerned about him.

Garrison's just here to cash checks. Thankfully Quaintance is on the way. Although I suspect Pope will figure out a way to shoe-horn Garrison at the 4 instead of burying him behind Moreno, where he should be.

They would love to have him...as a reserve.

Jay bilas said hes the best backup guard in the nation. That's about as blunt as I heard him speak of a player maybe ever.

Right now, hes our best player. So we have to hope these guys gel and elevate one another, because we're just short in the talent department.
