Anyone else hear that we’re gonna miss on Wafle, O’Brien, and Adams

Will take what Franklin is doing now to be honest.
Yeah, I'm more inclined to think this way as well. A heavy focus on early evaluations and development have seemingly gotten us to the semis of the CFP. And NIL focus on retention vs. recruiting has us a preseason favorite for the natty next season. And you can always explore the portal if the roster develops holes.

The other point may be with PSU now seeming to be in the lead for Iheanacho now he will cost a ton of $$$$ for PSU to get him. JF may have had to cut down on offers to people like Wafle when they got into the lead for Iheanacho. To land a 5 star OT ranked in the top 15 players overall isn't going to come cheap.
Sure, could be the case. Iheanacho seemingly prioritizes academics and proximity to home, but Oregon is about to drop a massive bag that PSU will not match.

This is JMO, but if CJF was going to drop a bag on a recruit, I'd tend to think he'd do it for an in-state kid (Obrien/McKeogh) or a 5* DE who's brother is already on the roster.

I just don't think it's CJF's MO to pay huge amounts of money to kids that haven't played a down of college football yet. Save it for the kids that have proven themselves in Lasch or in the portal.

Who makes the final decision on NIL money, anyway? Who pulls the trigger, says that this much $$$ is okay?

I think the whole staff is involved, but Andy Frank is the "GM." My assumption is that he's in charge of the budget.

Adam Breneman had Andy Frank on his podcast a few weeks back - I recommend it to anyone trying to get a better understanding of how PSU is working in the current climate of college ball.

Or if PSU misses on Iheanacho does JF take that money that was earmarked for him and go back and try to flip Wafle or O'Brien?

Good point. Last fall, it sounded like they were super competitive on the NIL front with Olesh when there was risk of him heading to Michigan.

Absolutely brutal couple of days in recruiting. Ryan kind of alluded to this earlier on the pod, but PSU may have used a good bit of budget on keeping the roster intact for a natty run - which in turn has resulted in dried up funds on the recruiting trail.

I do think this class is salvageable, and is by no means a disaster, but we're looking at another 15-20 finish. Which hasn't exactly gotten us over the hump in recent memory.

Meadows, Obrien, Iheanacho are still out there, yes. But most insiders seem to believe they're headed elsewhere. To have any shot at top ten at this point, I'd think you'd need to hit on at least 2 of 3 if not all of them.
"Salvageable"? Thats a bit of an overreaction.

Maybe, sure. But for a team that hasn't been able to beat Oregon, OSU, and Michigan top 20 classes aren't going to help as those three program will probably be within the top 5-10 again.

Chop Robinson was a first rounder and Adisa Issac was a third rounder also. Robinson, Issac, and Carter were all first team All-B1G under Barnes also. My son saw Ashton Jeanty being interviewed and he was asked who was the best defensive linemen he faced last year. His answer was Zane Durant.
Thank you for reminding me about Chop & Issac. Ven more puzzling regarding a DE shunning PSU. Gotta be the $.

He can follow his brothers path. Go to SoCal, collect his check, and then transfer here the next portal window. Win/win.
Yes, as others have said, just because you lose out on a recruit out of HS doesn’t mean that door is forever shut.

Domers are really pouring it on heavy on X toward PSU fans. I don't know myself, these players
come to PS camps multiple times, and a couple visits to other schools and they're gone. Schools
are really taking advantage of the PS camps, almost as a scouting system. Unless we get some
sleepers from these camps, a lot of 4 and 5 stars are doing PS more harm than good.

ND does have an advantage keeping all money from playoffs compared to sharing with conference
teams.

Maybe the portal is the way to go, helped both OSU and ND with QB's last year. The high school
signings are no guarantee either.

Agree on the portal. Missing out on a HS recruit isn’t the sting it used to be with the portal. We have been disappointed with recruiting many times before and we probably will be at some point in the future also, but the portal balances everything out. Life goes on.

ND going hard at PSU and Franklin. I’ll add the next time a 6’5” safety does anything worth note it will be the first. O’Brien is no Taylor Mays and Mays played at 6’3” 230.

I’m kind of surprised O’Brien did that post the day before his commitment. It seemed mean spirited. Kinda personal. At least that’s what it looks like.

I don’t get too excited over this stuff anymore. you want good depth and to grow a certain percentage of your roster organically, but These kids are all free agents. If they stink, get passed on the depth chart, or get processed, they’ll transfer. If they are superstars, they’ll demand more money or transfer. Hell, King Mack may transfer back here a third time before he runs out of eligibility.

Just a curious question how many visits did he take to PS vs. ND, and the same goes for the camps he attended ?

There is a point when someone is really interested , and someone is playing a university, it's coaches and it's facilities
in time, and money.

The B1G, SEC & Big XII should refuse to schedule ND until they join a confetence for football. They are playing into NDs hands by continuing to schedule them. Cut them off. Let them play ACC and lesser conferences

Not if PSU won't pay top $ for portal players and continue to weigh payments to the current roster.

Well, they got basically the entire roster to return, plus three new WRs in the portal and the top portal LB in the spring. I guess that should count for something, no? Sure looks like they made a lot of effort in improving on last years results now rather than later.

Bird in hand. We know what we have in these returners; a lot of these ‘elite’ prospects won’t pan out. Joey Porter Jr was a three star IIRC.

Do these guys realize that attending ND means they actually have to live in Indiana?
Especially the South Bend area. Not very pleasant.

I am happy they brought in the WRs (though lower rated in the portal) and of course Campbell. Whiffed on instant impact DL players. Have to hope White (DE from A&M) and Wafle (DT from Michigan) can contribute meaningful reps.
