Anyone ever spent time in a Turkish prison?

Can't say that I have, just curious if anyone on the forum has. If do, please state the city where you were and the years you spent there. No need to go into additional details.

Time spent imprisoned in the ethnically Turkic former Soviet republics does NOT count, only time served in Turkey proper. Likewise, Turkish bathhouses are not considered prisons, even if you went there "against your will."

No, but I worked there for 18 months in the late 60's, near Izmir. I was walking down on the water front one day and there was some kind of protest getting ready to start. A couple of vans pulled up and some kind of riot police jumped out with guns on their sides and billy clubs in their hands. You should've seen the protesters running away like their lives depended on it.

You could walk some sections of the waterfront and there'd be city blocks of old bearded men smoking opium in their water pipes. From the base you could see women (never men) working in the opium fields. At that time, a man could make his wife or daughter serve his prison sentence and some of them served/paid off their sentence in a large prison that served as a house of ill repute. Nasty place. Running water in a ditch serving as urinals.
