If so, what bloodlines do you prefer and what got you into it? As for me, I picked it up while stationed in the Philippines. I was forced to give it up after the eruption of Mount Pinatubo closed down the bases there. I got into it by accident… I had a rooster/turkey we were raising to eat. However, it was fun watching them fight each day.
After a while, I thought it was unfair for the rooster to have to fight the Turkey so I bought another rooster. I could watch them fight one another for hours. Then, one day I heard some noise at the end of the street and went to investigate. It turned out to be an illegal cockfight. Well, in the Philippines not so much illegal, but somebody got paid off. Also, this was the first time I had seen real game roosters fight.
Thinking that first rooster of mine could probably win, since he has lots of practice fighting, I went back to the house, got my rooster and put him in the fight. He lasted all of 10 seconds. Being upset that I lost, I went and got rooster number two. History repeated itself and I lost rooster number two. Now, I was down two roosters and about $10 in bet money.
At that point I decided I needed to purchase a real game fowl rooster and not a native one. I spent the next year going to the real pits and getting to know who was who. After a few years, I learned enough to know what to look for and started experimenting with cross breeding. At the time of the volcano, I had over 350 game roosters, one of which was a twelve time winner. Man I wish I could go back to those days.
