I've been looking, but can't decide.
Chuck, I remember you were looking 9 years ago. Told ya the stories about my parents' bad luck with motor homes back then. I want one, but something more like a small travel trailer.

Id like to get a small traveler as well. Something I can haul easily down to the Smokies or the lake and camp and at the same time setup reasonably for UK football tailgates.

I had an A frame for years. Easy and fast to set up and compact for storage. Easy to pull as it lays flat. Definitely worth looking into.

I almost bought a Class A a few years ago. Even test drove the damn thing. The deal breaker was when my idiot wife found out that the passengers in a Class A actually need to be seated while the thing is being driven. It’s not just a free for all.

But in all seriousness, I loved it. I can see myself buying one when I retire.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm looking at smaller Class C's mainly. I want to be able to stop at pull outs etc with little problem and get them in hotel parking lots when I don't want or can't find a campground.

Just like everything else I purchase, it's hard to pull the trigger.

I have fantasized for years about getting a motorhome. But no matter how you cut it, it is in no way economically feasible to own and operate one.

You can get good deals on used ones. I’ve got a friend that picked one up for a couple hundred and had to put another couple into it but now that they’re done they’re very happy with it.

I plan on building a Skoolie in the next few years. I don't need anything too fancy.

We just leased a spot on a lake here in Dallas and bought a 27ft travel trailer that we are keeping there. Our friends have a spot right next to us. Since everything is basically shut down, minimally open and generally chaotic right now and the foreseeable future, I think this was a good way to go. I'll probably get a boat too, since we are only 100 yards away from the marina.

JMO, but I tend to favor portability and simplicity. To me the whole purpose of a vehicle to get away from a ton of modern electronics, the city life, etc. Be one with nature, spend time with the family, enjoy a slower paced life. I actually love tent camping, but now that I'm older I don't take to it nearly as well.

So, for me, my family of 4 (+2 dogs).......the way to go would be something like a Micro Winnebago pulled by a full sized truck........or a Class C pulling a small economical car.

Here is a Micro Minnie Winnebago. A little over 20' long.

Even if someone gave you one, it is still not economically feasible. About 8 mpg, fees, maintenance, storage (for most of us), camping fees, etc. I don't doubt it would be enjoyable but a sizable expense for someone with average means (which, sadly, is me)..

I have a 16' enclosed trailer with an air mattress and portable air conditioner. We only use it once or twice a year going to bike rallys.

I eliminated the pull behinds because then I would have to buy a truck to pull it. Also, the perks of having a drivable RV is much too great for me.

I am going today to get a new Class C. I didn't really want new, but they gave me a great price on it.

it was a good excuse for me to buy a truck, not that I needed one. We had a Camry that we basically drove into the ground. We got $1000 on trade in and it didn’t pass inspection, so we were do for a vehicle anyway. I got a great deal on the truck too.

My uncle has a C. It’s great and we’ve taken it to fishing/hunting trips deep into Canada a few times. One of the greatest geniuses is that passengers can play games, watch TV, or fix you a sandwich why you drive. The downside is that there are places that are hard or impossible to go. For example more urban environments get hard to navigate and parking may not exist. Drive thrus are impossible. Some restaurants and attractions may be hard to get to or lack parking. Some roads don’t allow vehicles of certain sizes.....like the Going-to-the-Sun Road at Glacier National Park. But if you tow a little run about car like a Honda Fit or something, then you can go anywhere.

This is probably about the size I would want to make a conversion out of. You could do some really interesting things with one of these. Not ridiculously big to get around in and you have pretty good living space in it. Would be pretty good for vacation travel, tailgating, or some off the grid living if you wanted.

You could do something like this for instance .

Thanks for info for this novice RV'er. I will be pulling a toad. Amazing how much tow bars and tow dollies cost.

I understand. Fortunately, I can handle the expenses, but if you see me on the side of the road with a sign that says, "Will work for RV repair", please put something in the kitty. :)

Right on.

Let me know when you start planning some trips. I've been very fortunate through the years when it comes to traveling. Shoot, start another thread.......I'd love to hear from others what their experiences are.
