I've got a ton of DVD/Bluray movies including ones I've transferred from VHS. I have 4 HDTVs and all have Roku. Is it possible to download these flicks to a NAS and watch them via Plex on all TVs? Boring subject I know and highly specialized but I thought I'd give it a try. Anyone out there using Plex?

Look, I want to mock you, but I can't stand by and let a fellow Wildcat fan watch a damn VHS converted to DVD. Someone take up an offering.

Sorry I should have made myself more clear. A bulk of these movies are old home movies that I transferred to DVD so I could preserve the memories. Weddings, vacations, holidays, etc.. I still would like to watch these, from one source like a NAS, plus my DVD/Bluray movies without having to use the physical disc. I'd like to watch them on all TVs on demand if possible via something like Plex and/or Roku. I probably should have asked for suggestions instead. My mistake. GO CATS! Thanks!!

I don't use Plex or even have anything like that set up for media, but it would be a straight forward process just follow a how to guide. For you though if you have a massive library of disks it is going to take you a while to convert them to smaller media files; you'd be better off just downloading what you can by torrent

Yes, OP, you can do this. First thing I'd do is watch some youtube videos on it.

You really need a torque converter spliced into a USB 3.0 with a robust ancillary unit spec'd to about 55 lmi if you want to Plex a NSA and get any sort of enjoyment out of it.

Yes, have it installed on my Drobo 5N NAS. Works beautifully. I haven't tried yet, but you can also configure to watch outside your network. I'm currently at about 900 movies or so. I'd recommend Handbrake and M4VGear if you have any itunes movies you wanna convert.

Hey thanks for the input. I was hoping to hear from someone that used this set-up or had an alternative. Yeah I fully expected the good natured ribbing when I posted the question but I really didn't expect to get much help. You never know until you try. It was worth a shot. Thanks so much for the advice!

Here's the short story... Does your Roku have a Plex app? If not, install the Plex client for Roku. If so, it's just a matter of installing Plex server on your NAS. You will need version 0.9 (for NAS). Hopefully you can find that in Packages. The newer Plex client will not work on the 213+. However you should find the v.9 satisfactory.

FWIW, I'm using v.0.9.16.3.1840-cece46d (from Packages) on a 213j. The latest v.9 is 0.9.16.6.1993-5089475 IIRC.

Once the NAS Plex server is running, open Plex from a browser and set the paths to your media.

Once that is all updated, then you should be able to pull up your media via Roku TV Plex assuming your media is codec compatible w/ Roku.

Hey thanks for the details! All my Rokus have a Plex app and I'm looking at a Synology NAS for my network. Looking forward to making this happen!
