Yet another reason why small tier conferences should give the bid to the regular season winner.

The semifinals last night were right down to the wire, too. Whoever went last night and tonight definitely got their moneys worth.

DAMNITT! One of the greayest games of the year, but I cannot stand the result. Ugh. I hope by some miracle they make the dance.

Folks, that's a pretty good team that probably won't make the dance. Missed rebound literally probably cost them a tourney berth.

Check their schedule they have beat no one and lost to Houston, Portland and Valpo and they have 1 top 100 win.

Rankings mean nothing.

Beautiful game! The former LCA player from Lex puts the dagger in Murray. Why didn't Payne get the touch for Murray (makes you wonder)

Probably have a ridiculous SOS in the triple digits.
Then they shouldn't be ranked. Since they are, they should get in.

The problem is that Murray got into the top 25 because they went 16-0 in the OVC. However, the OVC is a one bid league and Murray never had a signature OOC win. They lost to Houston, Xavier, and Portland. They did beat WKU, but WKU is the fifth-best team in Conference USA this year (which is looking like another one bid league).

Again, this is why I hate small conferences having a tournament for their bid. To get a good rep, they should send their best team and give it to the regular season winner. For Murray to go 16-0 in conference and lose a de facto road game in Nashville to Belmont to miss out on the NCAA is ridiculous.

You may be right, but being ranked in the top 25 is no small feat. Somebody must think they are pretty good.

Sucks for Murray.

I know I am in a small minority on this, but I think the tournament field should be expanded.

There are a number of tournament teams Murray is more than capable of beating. Too bad they won't have a chance because Belmont was a tiny bit better tonight.

Has a ranked team ever been left out of the tourney? Don't know, just asking.

Because you're looking at the wrong ranking.

25th in the polls, but 67 in the BPI, 68 in the RPI. The selection committee pays little attention to the polls, at least the bottom of the polls. I hope Murray State gets in, but they have 0 top 50 wins this year, and only 1 top 100. That's going to make it very difficult for them.

Brutal loss, but any team in a conference like the OVC knows the stakes of their conference tourney.

Disagree on expanding the field. But agree on Murray St is good enough to beat a lot of teams that will be in the tourney.

Murray State SOS - 194th

They played two decent teams Xavier and Valpo and were blown out both times.

Ohio Valley probably only going to get one bid, but who knows.

Absolutely stinks for Murray. The 3 at the end was a falling sideways prayer only a minute or two after Belmont banked a 3... HATE that Murray may not get in as they deserve to be there.

Yippeee!! Belmont wins!!!! I'm a Belmont mom, sorry for all you Murray Fans. Though my son could not care less about basketball. He's a senior so it's cool for me to have my "other" team win a championship in my last year as a mom there.

That is BY FAR the best game Belmont has played all year. Really thought they would get killed in this game, but they hit their shots when they needed to. Craig Bradshaw is a great player, Barnett has ice in his veins - he hit a huge 3 last night against EKU too. Evan Bradds played the best game of his career.

I expect they will be a #15 or #16 seed and not have much of a shot in the NCAA tournament, but it's great for their seniors to get to play in in 3 of their 4 years.

Great day of basketball!

Yep. About 11 years ago, I think. It was one of the mid majors obviously.

That's a really good questions. MSU won't be ranked Monday.

Yep. Went to LCA and played for Virginia before transferring to Belmont. Awesome. I love seeing Kentucky natives do work. I don't care if it was against Murray. I only care about one Kentucky team.

No kidding, it's not like Belmont's game plan was some big secret, they've been playing Murray 3 times a year for 3 years now.

I will say that Rick Byrd is one of the great coaches at the mid-major level. Always gets the best out of his guys and they are never rattled. Murray looked like a bunch of playground guys at the end of the game.

IMO that was a coaching mistake by the MSU coach. I told my dad before that last play that they should foul immediately and even if Belmont makes the FTs Murray has about 7/8 seconds to get the last shot with OT awaiting if they miss. They were the better team and should never have allowed a 3 to beat them. Oh Well!
