That would in fact be a better national ranking (by Rivals) than three of the four recruiting classes brought in by Charlie Strong...
Not Big_Tasty_Muffin, but I do share his disappointment. Charlie was recruiting to win the Big East, where our toughest competition was West Virginia (47th in the Rivals 2011 recruiting rankings compared to Louisville's 29th). Bobby is recruiting to win the ACC, where we are trying to beat Florida State (currently ranked 2nd in the 2015 Rivals recruiting rankings) and Clemson (3rd).Originally posted by zipp:

Martin is no longer a UofL recruit. His visit was canceled and he tweeted that it wasn't on his end. So I take it that we are no longer after him because of a grade issue or something.Originally posted by Big_Tasty_Muffin:
It'll be an interesting couple of weeks.
IMO our biggest target is RB Dexter Williams, I think we have a shot at him. But from what I've read he's leaning toward Notre Dame.
We are close on several really good WR's. The three best that are not committed are Jordan Cronkite, Davante Peete and Brandon Martin. Martin is 6 foot 4, Peete is 6 foot 5. We have a good shot at getting those two.
A lot of rumors out there of other schools trying to steal some of our guys already committed but typically we steal a few of other schools commits on signing day. Either way we will sign a full class and I'm sure the staff will get who the type of players they want in there system.

Nothing breaking! Two of the National guys for another site predicted yesterday that Dexter Williams is UofL bound. GG Robinson says he's UofL bound but is visiting Florida this weekend. A lot of recruits do that though. Sheldrick Redwine seems to be a very soft verbal at this point.Originally posted by ciswilldean3215:
Anything new guys? New recruiting info before signing day? Anything?

With our new membership in the ACC, I will be disappointed if we don't at least finish higher than Coach Strong's 2011 class. We will need every talented player we can get, in addition to CBP's and CTG's brilliant coaching, to have a chance to win against the talent we will be seeing at FSU and Clemson."Recruiting" isn't a knob on the football machine that you move up from "Big East" to "ACC". Strong didn't turn away commitments because they were more than he needed to win the BEast. Every year, these coaches recruit the best crop of high school seniors they can get.
You just said you'll be disappointed if Petrino doesn't land a recruiting class that is better than Strong's BEST class. That's tall cotton. Strong and his staff were really good recruiters. They consistently brought in better players than U of L had ever recruited. Those are facts based on their Rivals ratings.
If you check teams like Cuse, Pitt, Rutgers, WVU, TCU, etc. that have moved UP in conference affiliation, you'll find that their recruiting did NOT improve immediately if at all. Expecting U of L to buck that trend is probably unrealistic.
Fortunately, with Petrino and as BTM said, recruiting isn't as important as it is with your average coach. He's proven that everywhere he's been, he can compete with no better players than he has now. Any improvement he makes in recruiting should only make that job easier for him...
Add some depth in the game against FSU this past season and we probably wouldn't have run out of steam. I think adding depth is the key to taking us to the next level.Originally posted by zipp:

It can be done, Zipp. We've come so far already - it will take what it's taken to this point. Time and hard work - and patience from the fan base. I believe we will get there. I'm not one to say "never".Originally posted by zipp:
Forgot to add to the prior post that if we're hoping to get to FSU's level of recruiting, some of us are REALLY gonna be disappointed...
Although it's his first year back, Bobby is a veteran coach and I have higher expectations. I also feel like we have a strong assistant coaching staff, several have been tabbed as very good recruiters.Originally posted by zipp:

2010: Rivals class ranked no. 49 after an 8-5 record incl. a win in the Liberty Bowl
2011: Rivals class ranked no. 24 after an 10-3 record incl. a loss in the Sugar Bowl
2012: Rivals class ranked no. 34 after an 11-2 record incl. a win in the Cotton Bowl
Petrino wasn't reeling in 4- and 5-star guys at Arkansas and was winning without them in the SEC. That's why Jurich stuck his neck out hiring him, not because he would land Top 10 recruiting classes.
A great coach doesn't need the stars. They find the guys who fit into their system and ignore how many stars follow his name. That said, they will be thrilled to get a 4 or 5 star that fits into their system.Originally posted by zipp:
