Nice to have the open practice and a good opportunity to see some of the new guys.
A couple of observations. Collins seems to have this teams attention. He can be pretty direct and involved, stopping play and making sure people are doing their job.
1) Benson is a big guy, and seems pretty fluid. He could add some pounds, but he will contribute. Looks like he is the tallest guy on the team, but it could be Sideshow Bob hair which make him look taller.
2) Isiah Brown, real potential, quick, decisive, pretty thin and learning. Good we have Mac so he can learn as he goes.
3) Mac Tap and Skelly are really looking bulked up. Good to see Vic Law back in the mix. Ash has some experience now, but not sure how much floor time he will see.
4) Sanjay Falzo Pardon Lindsey will be solid and experienced.
5) Charlie Hall and Tino Malnati provide some solid practice time competition, and hustle. Charlie having been in the system for a year is more confident.
This team has potential and is deeper than I can ever remember at NU. Bmac will be the sparkplug, The question is which of the big guys will step up and make thing happen.
Thanks for the report. It's funny that every year people talk about how much Taphorn has bulked up from the previous season. But it's always true! Remember how he looked as a freshman?

There is also a likely battle for minutes between Pardon and Benson. Comments on them?
Um..... being an NU fan, I'm trained to expect this to be season-ending.Adding to the above report, Benson looked more mature than I expected and definitely can help as a Frosh. Skelly could probably play some center as well, depending on matchups. Brown was the second string point guard for the entire practice. Law is going to be able to replace Demps as a second double digit scorer. He was pretty deadly from 3 and has other aspects to his game. Who will be that third guy??? Lindsey couldn't make any shots for most of the practice. Falzon sat out with some kind of minor injury. Hope he can be the guy. Collins spent the last twenty minutes working on late game situations which I found interesting. Brown got a great pass from McIntosh but missed a buzzer beater from the corner. McIntosh hit a long one to end the workout. I second the notion that the notable difference in this team from the past is that we have SOME BIG TEN QUALITY DEPTH.
Sorry but I was thinking the same thing.Um..... being an NU fan, I'm trained to expect this to be season-ending.
Thanks all for the color. Just curious, when you say Brown was second string PG, does that mean second group in drills and plays and exercises, or that he was playing PG with mostly 2s in scrimmage type stuff? Or both I suppose.Adding to the above report, Benson looked more mature than I expected and definitely can help as a Frosh. Skelly could probably play some center as well, depending on matchups. I'm sorry but there is something wrong with the hair cuts on a few of the basketball players. They're like hipsters or something. Macintosh has the worst haircut on earth. Dude can drop dimes and I love him but man his haircut is awful
That doesn't bother me. If we were misspelling Vic Law, then you'd have an argument, but there are a lot of names to keep straight. I don't think I dared to spell out Trevor Siemian once during his four years here in fear of being castigated.Doesn't offend me.
I just think it's embarrassing that some Northwestern fans can't spell the names of our players correctly.

Your starting five guess would seem to be a pretty good one from what I saw, and yes, Brown was at the point for the perceived second unit although I think that is pretty fluid at this point. Ash was playing the off guard almost the entire practice and he looked stronger physically. Brown and Mc were on the floor together for a bit of the time as well (for instance on the play when he missed a "last shot" from the corner.) Falzon was at the practice doing some leg stretching stuff so nothing to worry about there. Thanks all for the color. Related- what looked like the starting lineup? My guess would have been BMac Lindsey Law Falzon Pardon, but could see movement around that outside of BMac and Law.
That's why I do Mac. Which, technically, is incorrect. The fact that it arouses any emotion at all is what's weird to me
Thanks, good info! I think that's a logical starting 5 too. Would be great if we can BMac a bit more rest than he had last year to keep him fresh, so if Brown (or anyone else) is good enough to spell at PG for even 5-7 solid minutes a game against B1G competition that's a plus.Your starting five guess would seem to be a pretty good one from what I saw, and yes, Brown was at the point for the perceived second unit although I think that is pretty fluid at this point. On the other hand, who cares if you call methane CH3 rather than CH4?

Some of us are in fields where correct spelling and grammar are important. Imagine having to know the correct spelling of 2000 insects. One can't screw the spelling up or they'll face professional scorn. It's tough to shake professionally engrained habits.

This is 2016. Deal with it man. My 16 year old and his friends have similar cuts. You should hear them talk about the 80s and 90s haircuts. Just look at the Trumpster - that feathered animal pelt look doesn't impress anyone.

I thought you were a chemist, not a physicist.
I'm actually a Polymer Scientist with a Ch.E. degree. Chemists worked for me.
What's the average salary for someone in your lofty role?
In 2012, my last year before I retired, I earned $881,034. NU grads aren't average, they are top 1%.

I was hoping you'd pick up on my playful slight that physicists often use against chemists. In other words, as REAL scientists go, physicists > chemists.
How is a polymer SCIENTIST different from a polymer chemist? Or is it just loftier sounding.
I'm actually more of a naturalist who is asked to do science for a living. Naturalists are a dying breed.
