Fair point. But we also are the only one who has beaten five top 15 teams. What's Tennessee's best win - Baylor?

The pollsters are lazy. They don't pay attention to the games. I really think they just base it on overall record for most part.

Most of the pollsters are people like Lunardi and KP that never even played the game.

I don’t know if those 2 even have a vote. But that’s the kind that do.

MSU ahead of us is a freaking joke. Who the hell have they even beat?
Well, we have played a common opponent, Ohio State. I presume you know which one did better against them.

Bitching about MSU being one spot ahead of us in a poll is some silly pettiness. We have twice as many losses and they beat a ranked team yesterday. So it’s hardly surprising.

How is that "not bad"?
7 of the top 10, 11 of the top 15 lost last week.
We had the 2nd best loss, and the 3rd best win.

Houston leaps 3 spots, past us, because they haven't played a ranked team since their loss to Alabama in NOVEMBER!
Michigan St leaps 4 spots, past us, for playing their 1st ranked team in weeks (barely getting past #19 Illinois.

You aren't rewarded for wins nearly as much as you are punished for losses.

Because they always punish us heavily so I expected us to not even be top 10, we also have the most losses in the top 10 I think so overall not bad to me.

That was the first ranked team they played since Kansas in early November!!! Yes, they did play UNC when they were ranked (also in November) but the pollsters have since realized UNC is NOT a top 25 team.

One common opponent means nothing.
MSU is 1-1 vs current top 25 teams.
UK is 5-1. That isn't even a close comparison.
We have played 9 games (6-3) vs the current top 31, MSU has played only the 2 games (1-1). 9 to 2, of course we have a couple extra losses.
Or let's just look at last week, Last week we were ranked ahead of MSU. Our win vs #11 TAMU is better than their win vs #19 Illinois, so by moving them ahead of us, you are saying that their win vs Penn St (47 in NET) is significantly better than our close loss to #4 Alabama!

If you’ve ever watched Kendrick Perkins analyze a basketball game, you’ll come to see that being a former player doesn’t always equate to having eyes for the game. Legendary content for all the wrong reasons, horrific analyst.

OK, you got me there. 😆

But I would still rather listen to him than Lunardi.

But didn’t he go straight to the league from high school?

Not a fan of houston being ahead of us
Well, they're at Kansas this week, so guess who we should root for. Ugh

I really want Houston to lose, they game the metrics because they overwhelm bad teams with their defense, but they struggle to score and almost lost to UCF because of it.

The refs gifted them a win over Illinois at home yesterday. If you think we get screwed, what they did to Illinois yesterday, was criminal.

Illinois has a forward that scores at will. He's a bonafide pro right now. The refs kept him on the bench the whole game.

An MSU guard drove the lane and stepped on this kids foot and he got called for his 3rd foul. He went to the bench.

As soon as he came back in the game, he shredded MSU two possessions in a row, blew by his man and scored with easy, next time back on defense, he and an MSU guy fell to the floor, very little contact, they just fell and the ref called him. I will be surprised if that ref didn't have money on the game.

Pretty much every poscast is talking about the officiating in that game and several others.

I feel like he did, but I don’t remember. He definitely seems like he didn’t get a college education lol

Honestly, who cares? Nobody is ever gonna remember who was 8th or 9th in AP poll on January 20, 2025.

It’s long amused me how worked up folks here get over the AP rankings. It’s a meaningless poll that has no impact on anything that matters.

I agree with all of your points, but when one team is riding a 11 game win streak and just beat a well regarded team I can see them moving up a lot compared to us who has won a couple lost, won a couple, and lost. Just the way of polling.

Absolutely 100% meaningless. Those 5 big wins will weigh huge with the committee and that's all that matters.

Good thing seeding is based on resumes and not polls

Yeah I saw some clips about that.
Right on!!👍

We are a top 10 team at the end of Jan after a coaching change and total rebuild.

Doesn’t get much better. 👍🏀
This is the point right here. Pope has done so well that we kind of forget that. This is beyond ludicrous that we are even here already

No one. But now that media darling Gonzaga is gone from the polls, they are back on the ole Izzo train. At least this time MSU isn't in the top 10 with 8 losses like they usually are each year at this time.
