When the AP writers vote in these preseason poles do they only look at the past or do they really look at how many starters graduated and how the up and coming classes in the school have done?

I don't think they do much research. Seems primarily based on past success. JCA is ranked #4. They return 3 starters and the soph team won 2 games last year. Five people actually voted them #1...cmon!

I'd say some people do their research, call around to writers in other parts of the state and see who the top teams are, ask coaches who will give them honest feedback, find out who has a lot back....

And others just wing it and vote for who's the traditional powers....

2. Peoria Central
3. Washington
10. Metamora
Dunlap, Richwoods and Peoria Notre Dame

Would love to see one of these schools make it to the big dance in November.

I'm sure the IHSA will draw the magic line to make that happen!
