I am not even sure what exactly I am asking but I tried to use apple pay for the first time today. It didn't work even though I followed directions. The cashier knew nothing about apple pay so she was no help. Anyway, it was at Giant Eagle and should have worked but didn't. Anyone have any suggestions?

As stupid as it sounds if you just hold your phone overtop the actual part of the machine that says Apple Pay it works. It has to be pretty close for it to work but it’s very convenient. Especially in Bestbuy, not getting asked to show your credit card is very nice...

Thanks! I went back again tonight and it worked perfectly. It really does sound "stupid" to just hold the phone over the top of the scanner and it works but it does.

You *sure* it's supposed to work there? I know Samsung Pay wouldn't work for me at Starbucks up until like 2 months ago. I mean, I guess if it says "Apple Pay" it must, but not everything is setup for this yet, even large retailers.
Also, does Apple Pay offer rewards? Samsung Pay has a point system, 10pts/use and the more you use it for that calendar month the more it multiplies, up to 40pts/use. They offer the same gift card deals OR you can gamble your points to win prizes.

Yeah, I am pretty much into rewards and points. The apple pay promotion is actually a Chase Freedom deal. If I use Apple Pay (or another similar service) and pay with my Chase Card, I get 5% back. I am using it at Giant Eagle to also get fuel perks on top.

You're crazy to not look into this stuff and find ways to get money back. Discover gave me 5% back for all amazon purchases in Q4.. I got $45 back in rewards for December alone.Plus another 200 points in Samsung Pay..

I think Chase Freedom is normally 1% back. So, for most spend I typically use Citi Double Cash.
Discover gave me 10% back in Q4 on 2 different cards (wife's and mine). Discover doubles points the first year. My card has now reverted to 5% in bonus categories but the wife's is still at 10%!
I do need to look into Samsung Pay. I don't know much about it at all. Just now learning.

I love the CapOne commercials where Sam Jackson and Affleck's sloot try and tell us how revolving categories are just SOOOOOO tough to manage. If you can't log into your bank website, you shouldn't be given a credit card to begin with.
Takes a TV timeout to sign in, and check the box for 6 months worth of 5% point categories.. It's not that hard.
Samsung's is cool. I got up to like 200 points pretty easily, just from grocery store and coffee shops. You could bet 10 point to win more points (Twice I won 50 points) or you can gamble up to 150 points on things like vacations, Samsung gear and other items. I ended up gambling my points away, and not winning anything substantial.. but it's not like you should be able to win this stuff easily.
5,000 points can get you a $20 gift card it seems. That's 500 purchases IF you're at the base level, but maybe only 150 if you get to the higher levels. Not bad for something that's completely free (and more convenient).
