It’s all about money and there will be so much in the SEC that Clemson and FSU will end up there eventually. Once that happens several more ACC teams (Notre Dame, UNC, Pittsburgh?) will end up in the Big 10. Not sure what happens to the rest. Would hate to see this happen but I think the writings on the wall.
Note Dame and Pitt have only shallow ties to the ACC. But UNC?

If UNC leaves, that undermines the ACC as a top basketball conference. I'd hate that.

Would (could?) the Duke-UNC rivalry continue as the world's best rivalry? I mean it could, but would it? (Yes, I'm assuming Scheyer and Davis keep their programs in the blue blood realm.)

Duke UNC need to be in the same conference. Plus you have to have some sense of geography and local rivalries. You can't separate Michigan/OSU or USC/UCLA. I mean you could but it would be stupid.

Cannot see Clemson leaving the ACC.They know that they have a free run to the playoffs every year.Joining the SEC would put that in jeopardy
I agree with you Topps. Why would Clemson give up whats basically been given a free pass every year to Charlotte and the ACC title game? I know $$$ plays a role and the fat SEC football TV contracts could play a role. Still cant see it. I could see an ACC-SEC merger though. OFC

I think the problem is money. I get this from the FSU site , or at least used to when I was a member. The money is so much greater in the SEC than the ACC . TV money is so small in the ACC compared to the other conferences . What this does, according to FSU, and maybe Clemson, it puts them at a distinct disadvantage in trying to recruit FOOTBALL players when they go up against the SEC teams , which are in the same region. Those two schools put BB as a distant second to FB, and FB is where the money is. It is really strange that the other schools in the ACC dont seem to care about how little the ACC channel brings in compared to other conferences. I seldom see money or the ACC channel mentioned on the Duke site. Again, I don't go over to the Clemson site, so I cant say what they talk about. I do check ND every few days to see if there is anything new on them According to their fans, they are never going to join a conference unless absolutely forced too. I would like to see the ACC add two more schools that put FB first. Some of the ACC's added schools bring nothing to the table.

The ACC Network has been an epic fail. ESPN botched the roll out and it’s been downhill ever since. It covers virtually no territory. My aunt and uncle in Tallahassee can’t get it. Our cabin in western Nc nope. 90 miles from Clemson in the state of NC and no ACC network. If there were a location that should be automatic it would be NC and upstate sc. rumor is that sec network while having respectable ratings did not deliver as promised and big cable companies didn’t want to get burned again

I should have added, they never trusted it , when it was being discussed, because it had ties with Swofford, who no body outside the Tarhole community trusted. Dont know where your cabin is, I get it on direct TV in the mountains of Wilkes county. Seldom has anything I want to watch. You are right, it has never been much of a channel. Thanks Swofford.

Seldom watch it as well and Spectrum of course puts it on a plan you have to pay extra $$$ for. However thats how they make their $$$.Only really watch it 6 months out of the year. Don't want to miss any Duke hoops or fb.

We do have to upgrade ACC football. Its become a joke at some places, unfortunately including Duke. I can see the arguments Clemson and FSU would have for joining the SEC. We've basically let Notre Dame make their own rules since they joined, and thats been a huge mistake.

Notre Dame for some reason just rubs me raw and I know the reason. To me it's every sport not just the ones you pick to be a conference member. johnny "tar heel" swoffford could have given them the choice of a full member or not at all. As far as Clemson and FSU leaving FSU wouldn't be a big deal to me but Clemson would. They are a charter member and great memories of their contributions to the ACC. OFC

Sky I agree its hard to IMAGINE the Tigers leaving. That would mean both members of ACC from Palmetto State had departed. Gamecocks left in early 70s as we both recall very well with other OFC members.

The Notre Dame deal bites too. I mean come on, you're either ALL IN or not. Coach K voiced real displeasure over their selective in various sports entrance. Football was the big deal of course as the Irish did not want to become a full fledged conference member. OFC

You mean you don’t miss getting urine thrown on you at cole field house? Good times
I actually never had to cover a game at either USC or MD. I have covered games, FB games, at Clemson in years past. I just never liked anything about Md. or USC.

I visited Clemson years ago for a football game and it was a fun trip. I'd hate to see them leave the ACC.

I've seen a few post about the possibility os cheater u going to the SEC. Don't see it happening but you know Duke and the cheaters have had a great rivalryfor many years especially in basketball not so much in football anymore. Should it happen that cheater u feels SEC is the better option I'm not gonna fret a whole lot about it. It will be their choice. They can be in the same conference has their mirror image and become rivals. Can't even imagine the exchange between RR and thr board members. Of course both boards mods will end up banning the other board but just imagine. Their fans are exactly the same just different color uniforms. Ain't gonna happen though. OFC

I for one actually have more respect for Kentucky. Calipari doesn't pretend to be something he isn't. His goal is to get his players to the NBA and make money. UNX wants its players to stay for 4 years and let their ranking decline. UNX pretends to have a "Carolina Way" which is apparently just a front for bad education and bad development for its players. Like I said, by comparison, to me Kentucky is a breath of (relatively) fresh air.

"Calipari doesn't pretend to be something he isn't." Really? Really? He is a fraudster who has cheated everywhere he has coached. He pretends that he is a coaching angel who has never broken a single rule, but we know the truth. He is a breath of CO2 bovine air.

Chris I mean why not at this point? They might as well....Just split em all up into divisions and have it.....Oh well, money, money and more money!!!! Smh..... OFC
If all the teams in the 3 conferences are splitting the money evenly, there's no reason why Maryland can't rejoin the Atlantic Coast Division. Maybe Rutgers, too.

Meanwhile, Notre Dame, Louisville and maybe Pitt are closer to the Big Ten turf.
