Are the Mannings the greatest family dynasty in sports history?

Does any other family come close?
Nope. No other family comes close. You have several great father/son legacies out there. The Griffeys come to mind. But throw in a brother like Eli, and I can't think of any other family comparable.

Of course, Card fans like to boast about the great Brohm family legacy.

In a weird comparison how about the Harbaugh's family......coaching success vs playing success. Or, dare I say, Stoops' family.....but the jury's still out on that one.

Uh, the Stoops family? If one of the Stoops other than the one named Bob ever accomplishes anything noteworthy then they could be a candidate. 2000 was a long time ago for ole Bob. Hopefully it will happen with the brothers. But that is a big IF. Also, Mike hasn't really excelled at the HC level. Isn't he back at being coordinator?

I can't think of a family that comes close when you have Archie, Peyton and Eli.

In baseball there have been quite a few families that have had multiple generations of successful athletes like the Griffey's, The Fielder's, and the Alomar's. I don't think any of them come close to the championship pedigree of the Manning's though. Although, one could argue that championships are dependent upon the teams you are place on.

Come to think of it, the Fielder's (Cecil and Prince) are both going to be members of the prestigious 500 HR club by the time it's all said and done.

The Von Erich's and the Hart's come to mind.

In terms of numbers, Clay Matthews Sr. family is successful, but not the quality of the Mannings:

Clay Matthews Sr. - 4 year NFL career

Son: Bruce Matthews - HOF
Son: Clay Matthews Jr. - 3 time All Pro

Grandson: Clay Matthews III - Current NFL player
Grandson: Kevin Matthews - 5 year NFL career
Grandson: Casey Matthews - Current NFL player
Grandson: Jake Matthews - Current NFL player

Not a hockey fan...but the Hulls' of hockey fame. Father Bobby Hull, one of the all-time greats. Had a brother that played with him for 8 years with Chicago. And his son Brett is another all-time great of the NHL.

Well, it is a bit debatable Manning did anything in the game to actually WIN the game, as Trevathan and the D and the kicker should get pretty much all the credit, but you win as a team and lose as a team.

Howie Long has 2 sons (I think) playing in the NFL now, so they may get in the running. But being linemen, they don't get a lot of press.

Peyton and Eli will be first ballot hall of famers. I'm not sure any sibling or father son combo can come close to that.

I wouldn't erect the statue just yet. There's this little thing with P Manning and a NFL investigation into his HGH use. Let's see the outcome of that before we canonize him.

Eli will finish his career just outside the the top five in passing touchdowns and passing yards. With two Super Bowl rings and maybe another before he is finished, I would say he is a lock. I'm not a fan of either Manning, but the numbers are there for Eli to make the hall of fame on the first go around. Is Rodgers better than Eli? Without question. Is he better than Peyton? Maybe. I think Rodgers is the best in the game right now. I can't place him ahead of Peyton until he accomplishes what Peyton accomplished. Peyton in his prime was an incredible thing to watch. So is Rodgers.

I think the Matthews clan is better than the Mannings. I think there were also some cousins that were very high level athletes too.

Peyton? Yes. Eli? Nooooooo. Not only is Eli not first ballot, I dont see him making the hall whatsoever.

Did you see the links and info I posted above? He will be top ten in ever statistical category and have two super bowl rings. Only thing that will hurt him is being Peyton's brother and no MVP awards.

His stats vs history tell one tale, but his stats versus his peers tell another. Hes a mediocre QB playing during an era where throwing the ball dominates the game. He won two of the flukiest superbowls ever. If thats not enough, his INT's should be enough to keep him out.

He also has two super bowl mvp awards. He is third all time in consecutive starts and that streak is still active. He hold the record for most passing yards in a single post season. He is the third quarterback in NFL history with at least 44,000 career yards, 290 touchdowns, four Pro Bowl appearances and two Super Bowl championships, joining John Elway and Tom Brady.

That's lazy analysis. Namath threw more interceptions than touchdowns and had a career rating of 65. He is in the hall. Jim Kelly threw a lot of interceptions compared to his touchdowns and had a career rating of 84 and no Super Bowl rings. He is in the hall. Eli will be in the hall of fame. I think he will be a first ballot but that is debatable. Eli actually getting in is not debatable.

It is hard to keep a 2 time Super Bowl winning QB that also has 2 Super Bowl MVP's out if the Hall. Whether his wins were "Flukey" or not, he still has 2 rings. Eli is still young and could possibly get another one before he's done.

Peyton is sure fire First Ballot Hall Of Fame. The NFL may be conducting an investigation into the allegations made by the drive by media outlet, but IMO, they won't amount to much.

The Manning family is referred to the First Family of the NFL by current and former players who understand what they have accomplished.
