We'll seeI see a lot of our four star commits and players leaving PSU and mostly three star (ratings earned in the Big 12) coming in to play at PSU. What is the take on how we fare as a team in the BIG next year with the way the portal is playing out?
Are you really a Heisman? Or a wannabe? As Raiola goes to Oregon. WTF.Are you really a Dr? Do you know Dr. Vinnie Boombah?

Given that recruiting, star ratings and now the portal are discusses ad nauseam on this board - I think this is a totally fair game topic for discussion. (As an aside - some of the unprovoked snarkiness and hostility that's commonplace on many threads is really disappointing). It's been proven particularly this year that not infrequently lower rated recruits coming out of high school can actually end up being better football players, or always were. Assessing actual production vs just potential gets easier when players have a body of work at the collegiate level, but there aren't many prefect apples to apples comparisons. How do you compare a player who sat behind a superstar at OSU or Bama vs someone who put up big numbers in G5 or FCS. We're not even allowed to compare performance in the Big12 to the B1G. We have to pin our hopes on Campbell being Cignetti-like in his ability to accurately assess players' productivity as opposed to potential, ratings, etc. So almost by definition, we won't know if we "won" or "lost" the portal game until we see the production or (hopefully not lack thereof) on the field. The feedback is much appreciated.

In that case I'm confused why Oregon & OSU are winning 11+ games and making the playoffs instead of Northwestern, Wisconsin, and Iowa.Pretty simple - the star system is not the end all be all. Prime example, Indiana this year, how many stars are those kids? Finally, Indiana beat 5 star teams like Ohio State, Alabama & Oregon this year.
The star ratings are as transfers, not as high school recruits. When you're dealing with transfers, who gives a damn about what their meaningless star rating was coming out of high school when they probably accumulated a bunch of inflated stats against overmatched competition? What you should give a damn about is how those transfers have performed against legitimate college competition. I trust that the coaching staff wouldn't be bringing in these transfers if they didn't feel they could contribute against Big 10 competition.
Easy answer - Oregon & OSU have $$$$$$$ to pay players they rate highly in the PORTAL no matter what their star rating(s) were previously. NW, Wisconsin and Iowa not so much. There is a reason Kraft made sure to announce $30 million pool at the introductory press conference. In that case I'm confused why Oregon & OSU are winning 11+ games and making the playoffs instead of Northwestern, Wisconsin, and Iowa.
Thanks for clarifying. Hey, I'm not expecting a 10 win or more season in 2026. Right now, I'd consider a 9 win season to be a great accomplishment. With that said, I think that Campbell has done an admirable job of putting together a roster in very short order that can be competitive in 2026 and stabilizing the program, after which he really can start to stock this roster with more highly rated players. The star ratings are as transfers, not as high school recruits.
Of course they did.
They also won 34 games over the prior 3 years (while the "three stars" at ISU won 22 in the Big 12)
PSU 2005: 11-1 and Final #3 ranking. Paul P.: 2005 and 2006 Bednarik Award winner and 2005 Butkus Award winner.
Indiana's starters had the lowest average star rating of any P4 Playoff Team.... - how are they doing?
Your star ranking from HS is based off of camps/showcases, HS film and swayed by certain school offers. Some freak athletes at their position who dominate lesser competition and dont attend 1 on 1 showcases can be ranked much higher than they truly are.
Other kids who dont attend any of the showcases and dont have legit athletic times/data are not ranked as high though they may be more instinctive and intelligent.
Lousy recruiting is not a very good excuse. One team obviously had a lot more talent than the other. What percentage of big games did they each win?
However I’m more worried about the recruiting and portal players down the road.
Down the road? It's my understanding that this is supposed to be the only year of patching this thing up with Wisconsin style of players, which is OK for now, but next year it's back to being up in at least the Top 15 in recruiting, stars, etc.
Short term pain for long term gain is what I thought this was supposed to be, with this year being Campbell's chance to prove he can do fairly well even with less so after that, more will want to come to Penn State and outdo the last guy who always got more, but got much less out of it.
Honey Dipper knows stink. We stink at everything!
Ok why are we paying top Iowa State guys if they only have one year of eligibility left if this is a rebuild year? I’d rather give the money elsewhereDown the road? Because it gives you immediate dividends next season and comes off the books? Do you just want to lose every game next year? The schedule is soft as charmin, so let's get some vets and see if we can win some games.Ok why are we paying top Iowa State guys if they only have one year of eligibility left if this is a rebuild year? Some of you guys don't understand that college football is now being looked at like the NFL. Penn State has a front office now. We have a GM. But we also have finite funds. I mean look at Oregon and Bama - they just got absolutely smoked by a team with half the funds and a tenth of the "stars." Do you agree with sending a million dollars to Andrew Olesh just for him to sit on the bench? Just for a recruiting bump?
These guys are being scouted by professionals, not the dummies on here that don't know ball. We're a few weeks into this process and some of you are already hitting the panic button. Chill out and let these guys cook.
Not sure if that is a serious question, but assuming it is:Who should he be bringing in instead? I was under the impression that nothing much is available except Iowa State players. Somehow they brought in a UCLA and OSU player. Are there others they should be buying?
Eligibility only lasts one year now with the portal. Saying someone has 2 or 3 years left is meaningless when they can jump ship every yearOk why are we paying top Iowa State guys if they only have one year of eligibility left if this is a rebuild year? I’d rather give the money elsewhere

There are, what, 3,000-4,000 players in the portal..... which opened on January 5th (or sometime around there). Probably an average of 20 players or more entering the portal from nearly each and every program.
Those that advertise themselves as “Doctor” in their handle are usually the furthest from being one.Are you really a Dr? Do you know Dr. Vinnie Boombah?

Maybe they stay at a holiday inn express. Those that advertise themselves as “Doctor” in their handle are usually the furthest from being one.
Like the stars assigned to Paul Pozlusny?Apologies as I see now this has been posted. We won't know until we see the results in the fall. Don't focus on the stars.
Offense projected starting lineup, Riker pushing for the center spot . Looks good Billy Ray.
Got a big boy Aussie punter . He’s only #230 at 6’5” , will need to put on some weight .We’d better have a good punter and a better defense.

CMC has spent his whole career evaluating and signing raw jems.
