For months I've been seeing comments about how JQ is going to dominate when he starts playing.
I think we should temper our expectations a little. He hasn't played in a long time, his conditioning is going to be down, he's going to be rusty and I have to believe he's going to have to get used to playing on a surgically repaired knee. That can't be easy to do.
I think he will eventually be a force, but I don't think we should expect him to come in like the ultimate warrior and save the day.
At this point, I just want him to stay healthy and eventually get to the point where he can get back to his normal.
I doubt he's going to fix what's wrong with this team, not at first anyway.

Yeah, I tend to agree. He's not going to light the world on fire in his first month, but he's going to be able to build his way up to something that will be significant come March!

And he just may be the difference in tight games, a 3-4 point loss might be a 5 point win because he gives us 20+ great minutes!

Nah. I’ve only seen one or two doing that on here.

Seems like most are of the mindset our issue are well beyond the things that JQ’s skill set is going to fix. He’s not a shooter for one. And that’s probably issue #1. He’ll help with defense in rebounding for sure which are both pretty big problems but he’s not the type of player that takes you from “barreling towards a losing season” to “title contender” which is what the expectation is at UK.

IDK, I have seen it all over the place, so many think JQ is going to be this magic key that fixes all these issues and that thought is setting these peopls up for a very hard fall.

To be fair, i don’t think a lot those people ever really fall that hard. The eternal optimists. I think some of them are just happy to have a local team to watch win or lose.

Peronally, watching the local team get their *** beat over and over is…not very entertaining for me but to each their own.

Defensively he is a difference maker. He's long, athletic, and while it may take him a game or two to settle down(try to do too much), he has solid anticipation and + timing.

If you're expecting him to come in and be an offensive juggernaut you're gonna be disappointed. His offensive ability is more putback and rim-run oriented than back to the basket guy. He's still raw in the post. Did seem to have nice touch though.

He's a perfect fit alongside Mo D. Defense and rebouding should pick up almost immediately. It might take some time before he makes a difference on the offensive end. That's fine. Hopefully people won't start saying stupid **** if it takes him 4-5 games to get going. Wishful thinking on social media.

Overhype? Maybe. But the most prevalent activity for this board has been bashing (not in any order) Barnhart, Pope and recruiting.

I’m not overhyping but he does help with some issues this team has. Rebounding and rim protection. Now that Mo D is back that’s a huge rebounding and inside presence advantage. Ike would not have dominated against JQ.

Every time he mixes it up in the paint, goes up for a block, or cuts, I'm going to cringe.
I can't imagine what his parents are going to be goung through.
I still have flashbacks of watching Derrick Jasper dragging his leg up court. I was so disappointed and disgusted with everyone who allowed him to play. Please don’t let this happen again.

Rebounding is huge regardless on what side of the ball it is. So he will definitely do that which should be 10-15 point advantage UK. (Few less second chance pts for the other team along with more offensive rebounds). Keeping them in some more games.

The team will become elite defensively once he settles in. Our 4's will become more effective and we can focus on defending against the 3. Many aren't appreciating just how athletic, big and explosive he is. Elite shot blocker. Opponents will have to adjust their offense due to his presence. It will lead to more fast breaks and allow for better spacing on offense.

If he brings the kind of energy and effort that Mo D brought in the second half of the Indiana game, he'll really elevate the team's chances against good teams.

Unfortunately, it's sort of natural when a team isn't doing well, you mistakenly think that "Once this guy comes back THEN we will be unstoppable". But one guy can't fix all the problems or even most of them, and it's going to put unreasonable expectations on JQ,, and I'm sure some fans will quickly turn on him when he's not putting up 28/12 nights.

See: Cincinnati Bengals with Burrow.

It will be good if he can just hit the glass, get some put backs, and defend the paint. Not expecting anything outrageous. Just hoping he plays and affects the game in those ways a little.

Barnhart is a 🦕
Pope deserves criticism
Recruiting has to improve

Personally, haven't seen a lot of people overhype JQ. The kid has missed quite a bit of basketball time, so there will be growing pains. Hopefully his talent prevails.

Don’t get your hopes up. People here will be saying stupid **** the moment he doesn’t grab his first rebound.

May be grasping at straws. The kid has not played in a year.

I've seen about 10 "JQ isn't going to be the savior" posts and don't know if I've seen 1 "JQ is going to be the savior."

I've already had the very hard fall, I'm just trying to get my a.ss back up 😂

It is more positive thinking, and not giving up on my cats, then a magic key. I know how a great block, or a back board rocking dunk, can mean more then a 3 pointer, and pick every player on the team up, from the hard fall they have had 🥳.

As long as our shooting sucks, he won’t be able to do much offensively because defenses will pack the paint
I hear ya, but part of the reason our shooting has sucked is because we take lots of bad shots. If the D packs the paint, it could create better looks that help our shooters get in a rhythm.
