Are we really going to have to suffer through a 3rd year with Pope?

So you again show you aren’t comprehending what's being said.

Do you mean to tell me you cant see the difference between:

1) "I agree with Pope getting a 3rd season to fix this mess"

And

2) "I don't care what you say, Pope is my guy"

What’s being said, is #1, what you see, is #2. It’s a YOU problem.
You may say #1, the others you listed in your original post and some others do not

Because you guys are accusing the calm ones, like me, of lowering our standards and hoping Pope stays here forever.
He's getting a 3rd year and he should get a 3rd year. You guys cant come to grips with that.

Not everyone believes he should get a 3rd year, you should come to grips with that and just respect it
And that’s because you think this is a video game.

You would have a point if Pope missed the tournament both years, but he was a 3 seed last year and set a record for most quad 1 games. Fully healthy, last years team is a final 4 team.

Even with a bunch of injuries and team turmoil this year, he still made the tournament. Coaches that do that, don't get fired. Not here, not at duke, not at unc and not at KU.

I don't know what fairytale world you live in, but there is no program in this world that fires a coach in this situation. Jerry Jones wouldn’t even fire a coach in this situation.

The other thing is, you obviously don't understand the consequences of firing a coach after his 2nd year when he navigated injuries and had the success Pope had in year 1.

You fire Pope now and no coach is taking this job. That's a stupid move.

I keep seeing snide comments about a group of people on here being "Pope pumpers". Why is this so hard for so many of you to understand? Is this a learning disability, or some other mental issue?

Nobody here, not me, not Monday, not Cowtown, not Cowboy and not Village, are Pope pumpers. Do we want Pope to succeed? Yes, but not because we are Pope groupies, it's because he's the current coach in place and him losing, means our program takes another step back.

Yes, we WANT Pope to win, but every one of us has said, he gets a 3rd year to prove himself. All I can hope for, is next years team doesn't suffer catastrophic injuries like the first 2 did. I want no excuses. Next year is put up, or shut up and leave.

Firing Pope now, would be an awful look for UK. The injuries and last years sweet 16 would be used against us and it would be very loud. Not to mention, Pope is one of ours, firing him in this circumstance, is a terrible way to treat one of your own.

This is on Mitch, he is the one that put us in this position. He is the one that should be answering for this.

The issue I foresee is, what will the new AD do if Pope loses 10 games, comes in 4th in the SEC and makes the sweet 16. Does the new AD let him go? Maybe it depends on how many of those 10 losses are blowouts and how badly we got beat in the SS.

I think it's important to get an AD hired now and for that AD to make it clear to Pope what the expectations are for 26/27 and if those aren't met, he will be removed.

I'm hoping this season's failures happened because the locker room issues and the injuries more than Pope's inabilities. I really do think he lost this team early and never could get it back on track.
If the schedule is as tough as the last two years I am not too hung up on the 10 loss thing but we really need to advance past the sweet 16 at some point in the near future.

I don’t believe that was a final 4 team, and there are clear problems with his coaching. Problems we had last year we had this year, he didn’t learn anything plus he can’t recruit. He’s not getting fired though we get it, you’re not changing my mind that he’s a good coach, I don’t believe he is but clearly you think he is.

I know the schedule will be difficult, it usually is, but he really needs to at least get through the SECT with less than 10 losses and no more getting blown out.
This is the situation Pope has put himself in.

Not sure why you think I'm trying to change your mind about anything. I'm not. You do you.

I THINK Pope is a "good" coach, he proved that last year, but I don't think he's a great coach, or even exceptional.

UK deserves a great coach, but Mitch clearly didn’t understand HIS assignment.

It has always been tough in general but the last two have literally been the toughest in school history by the metrics. 7 times our schedule has been rated at an 11 or higher difficulty and we have lost at least 10 games every time.

The issue is, he managed to beat some of the highest rated teams, but turned around and lost to some really bad teams.
That's the very definition of a good mid major coach that thrives in a David vs Goliath role. He needs to be Goliath.

I’ll find a new team to be a fan of or just drop college sports all together if he’s year for year 4, let alone a fifth year.
At some point even as a die hard fan you have to draw a line if the administration allows them to be that terrible lol. I don't have faith that the Pope will get this turned around but I have hope that he does.

There’s a very real possibility that we’re watching the Pope regime head toward the cliff with losing most of his assistants and losing Lowe and possibly Chandler. Sure, he could potentially do better in the portal but what have you seen so far that suggests he can? Especially with nearly a whole new staff. Wasn’t that his excuse for last season? “He did so well getting all these guys while putting together a staff!” While completely ignoring finishing 6th in the SEC and losing over 10 games.

I’m asking this, if he repeats last season: is a 12 loss season, finishing 6th in the SEC, not making it to the weekend of the SEC tournament and getting blown out in the Sweet 16 good enough for a 4th year?

Well to answer your question when you ask what have I seen? As one of Popes biggest bashers I think he did pretty good in the portal his first year. No fifth year seniors this year but hes proven he can build a pretty good team and compete.

This next year is do or die for him imo. But then again the way it's going I could see him being here about 5 years like the above poster said.

pope has a "near the top" sec roster bulding ability, but not a "championship" level roster building ability sadly

It was fine for year 1. But not for year 3. Same with the Williams kid. It would have been a fine 1st year recruit to have as a junior. But Pope needs to win big now. If Williams even sees the floor, next year won’t be pretty.

But if Pope comes back for year 4 or 5 without some miraculous change in his recruiting and coaching ability next year, you may as well give up on Kentucky basketball. It’ll be dead. Imagine 5 straight years of being a middle to lower standing team in the SEC. It’ll be difficult to ever come back from that. You sure as hell won’t have boosters supporting that garbage.
