Short answer is no. As ODD said, he’s 18, he is in phenomenal shape. I’m not going to let one game where **** hit the fan 30 seconds into the game make me lose logic. In two of the four games he mentioned in that six game stretch, Tre played excellent. One on the road, one at home. Tre isn’t a good shooter. Can’t use tired legs as an excuse bc he’s just not a good shooter to begin with. 3-15 dropping your percentage to just above 25%? Well news flash 25% stinks anyway. Tre is fine. He had a rough night Wednesday like everyone else not named RJ or Cam. Tired legs didn’t affect the defense he played bc he shut down White.

Can’t say whether or not they get tired legs or not, I get the part that they’re young. I think that sometimes though getting a break for a couple minutes a half helps not from the physical part, but let’s them see the game from the sideline.
We can’t prove that RJ going to the bench for that very brief break helped him or not, but I think the energy Goldwire brought made him more focused when he came back in.

Sometimes a change of scenery can help.

I think that’s right. Don’t think exhaustion physically really plays that big of a role, but certainly sometimes you need a breather mentally. Saying that, we don’t really have that luxury. K knows this and i would guess his thinking is, he needs to learn while on the floor bc later on in March this could be a situation and he needs them to think on the floor in real time.

Didn’t Tre have 3 games off not long ago?
He did, it’s another argument that i think is as lazy as our transition defense on Wednesday. He’s not physically tired. I’m ok suggesting mentally, but he has to get over that if he wants to make the most of his one year at duke. I think he will. Tre is one of the last things I’m concerned about the rest of the season, even with how poorly he played against unc offensively.

Its not just the legs, it’s the wind, and even the mind. I think it’s ridiculous to suggest that a 2 minute breather at some point in the 2nd half wouldn’t benefit Tre (or RJ) later at the end of games. I hate seeing them play 40 minutes in the regular season. I’m okay with 37.

I agree to a degree. Tre is not a big physical guy, and he's playing a ton of minutes. He will be asked to do a bit more now that Zion is out. I'd like to see Goldwire spell him for 2 minutes a half.

I think a lot of it is mental fatigue as well. Yes they are young and healthy and talented but they are also freshman who are facing unbelievable pressure and being asked to play senior's minutes. Every game is an event. Exciting sure but probably draining as well.

I don't know, Hart. I usually don't succumb to the 'tired legs' theory. These are 18 year old kids, and in incredible shape...but, maybe all those minutes do translate as part of the 'freshman wall'.

I imagine 18 yr old legs get tired too. I guess is that Tre is wearing himself out on D which is affecting his offense. It would be nice if Goldwire could steal some more minutes

But it’s not really affecting his offense. Tre Jones attempts 8 shots a game. He had an awful shooting night against UNC. A one or two game sample isn’t indicative of him having tired legs. If he let it affect his defense than there might be something to this. The mental argument i can understand. However, as K said earlier in the season, when you get tired what do you think about? You. It’s mental. Tre is advanced mentally. And as easy as it is to say Jordan can spell Tre for a few minutes of the game, the reality is, when we are playing really good teams, we don’t have that luxury. Jordan isn’t good enough to leave in for two minutes a half alone.

I agree...he needs to see some ***** fall. Love his intensity on defense though. Definitely need him on the floor as much as possible

Tre is in good shape. I don’t think it’s tired legs as much as he just wants to win.

He puts a lot of strain on himself but look how well he held down coby white. You use a lot more energy playing defense then offense.

I think the mental fatigue and travel probably wear on these kids, but I don't buy the tired legs.

Most of us probably played sports when we were younger. I was not the best athlete in the world, but I played basketball until I was 17 and competitive soccer thru my sophomore year of college. We would play in countless weekend tournaments where we might play 4-5 games in a day, sometimes two days in a row if we made it to the finals. Yes they were condensed games usually (55 minute soccer games instead of 90), and in NO WAY am I comparing the level of competition and play to what Duke men's basketball plays, but I don't remember being all that tired after 5 hours of soccer or basketball in a day. Plus these kids have the best conditioning coaches in the business.

Just my $.02

I've always thought that it was the pressure. Every game of ours is on national TV it seems. Like playing 3 hours in your garage with your band is a lot different than Bruce Springsteen putting on a 3 hour show. Exposure is great but every mistake is magnified as well.

The comment was made that Jordan plays best when paired with Jones. Isn't that a way to give Jones a break? Maybe not bring the ball up against pressure. Maybe not have to pressure the opposing point guard the entire court. That may be the way Coach K gives Tre a little breather. Against UNC, he may not have had that luxury because there were so few offensive weapons on the court.

I think this is Tre's version of the "freshman wall." And the fact that he is still giving us A+ defense, I'll take it.
UNC didn't even guard Tre beyond 10 feet, that is a problem. He needs to make teams pay for leaving him wide open.

Check it out.

Its not just playing time though...travel, class, practice, games....all take a toll on an 18 yo kid who hasnt had this experience before or had to handle the balance. That said, there are enormous amounts of resources dedicated to the program so if he is fatigued they need to look at those as well.
