This is such an odd take for me. So Calipari is a bad coach because he blew a final4 game when he was undefeated.. yet, he got the team to 38 wins? So which is it?

Also, Wisconsin wasnt just "not a bad team", they were putting up some of the best metrics that decade. They were VERY good. Elite even.

Lastly, the Alex Poythres injury really hurt us for the Wisconsin game as we had no answer for Dekker and kaminsky hurt us. I just dont see how you can really dog a coach for losing a Final4 game no matter the talent he had. Which by the way.. turns out wasnt all THAT talented of a team: KAT is a great NBA player, Booker is too (but he was a freshman in a slump), thats about it. What many thought was a star studded team with lottery picks all around.. really wasnt.
Dekker and Kaminsky were both lottery picks (first rd for sure if I am misremembering the lottery) but my guess is people forget that because they were both white. Wisky was elite, as you said. I'll never have anything but respect for the Harrison twins, don't care if Ulis should have played more. Not to mention, we still win that game if the shot clock violation is called. Poythress injury was huge, for sure, but I hate using injuries as a crutch.

The year may have been a "failure" (I don't think it was) but it was not a "bad year".

I’ll just say this: While I vehemently disagree with the people who miss Calipari, I’ll at least show respect for the fact those fans are taking their presuppositions to their natural conclusions and being consistent and well-thought about them, and yes, I’m being dead serious. It’s kind of like how I disagree with atheism, but respect those atheists who take their presuppositions faithfully to their natural conclusion, which is moral nihilism. I was really curious how some of you people who literally see everything in basketball coming down to “studs” or lack thereof would have any substantive retort to these people who miss Calipari. If talent is what wins above all else, Calipari’s roll-the-ball-out aww shucks coaching philosophy works just as well as anything else. I feel bad for those of you who miss Calipari. Don’t worry — as a fanbase, we watch our games with blindfolds —- once we get rid of Pope, we will find us a Calipari Jr. so that we can roll the ball out again.

Would have been tough to fire him just a few years removed from a Final 4, but would have been healthier for him and the program if he left a couple years before he did.
Our final four was 10 years ago 6 year’s would’ve been the year before Covid

Is dekker or kaminsky in the nba a team full of random park white boys beat the greatest college basketball team ever assembled. Cal failed miserably

Watch us get our BTA by Indiana Gonzaga and Saint John’s I don’t see any of them being close games
Much better teams and players
Gonzaga will beat us by 15 or more
Indiana by 10 or more
Saint John’s will beat us to guarantee it
By that time the seasons a wash the players give up win 7 or 8 conference games maybe 11-12 th in the conference and no tournament 8-10 in conference play no reason to think will even have a winning record no reason to think home court “advantage” will help like it’s supposed to . Anyone else to think anything more than 8 or 9 wins in conference play that’s being nice is delusional. We’re not making the tournament

I don't think she's saying those things. Most would equate a year that's a failure with a bad year, though.

Cal wasn’t run off. He could have stayed as long as he wanted.

Two things can be true. It was time for Cal to go and Pope is not the guy to replace him.

I'm so glad this is where we are at right now. Love this SOOOOOOO much.

Let's rip each other to shreds.....I'm sure THAT will save UK basketball.
What’s really amazing is that you had an opportunity to create a whole new username and instead you included Cal in it even though he’s gone.

I’ve explained this a hundred times and at this point I really don’t care anymore.

We literally had a hall of fame coach and we ran him off for a mediocre mid major coach. I hope you all watched the Arkansas Louisville game and saw the athletes we no longer have. Thanks, Matt Jones!
Cal’s primary motivation was no longer winning for UK. All he cares about is getting kids drafted. He has literally had more talent than almost any coach in NCAA history and 1 title to show for it. Whether it’s Pope or another coach, UK will find the right guy at some point. It was time for Cal to leave. Yes! I am still happy he is gone!

Mark Pope may or may not make it here but listen to me when I say this. I WOULD NEVER EVER WANT THE CALIPARI OF THE LAST FEW YEARS BACK. NEVER.

Calipari ran himself out because the NIL was all but cut off, and Mitch was running out of time for the new HC to field a team, and had to take a gamble and hire the mid major coach.

Get the facts straight 👍🏼

I've been a Wildcat fan since the mid-70s. Thus, been through a number of "coaching issues." I hope that at some time before I die, we aren't bringing up Calipari (pro or against) all the time.

Keep flexing hog fan. And blaming it on MJ is hilarious. Nice touch. At least you did some research.

And if Cal approached his last several years at UK like he is doing at Arkansas he very well may still be the coach here but he didn’t.

-He chose to be antagonistic with boosters and fans
-He chose to continue to push players to the NBA
-He chose to refuse to adjust his approach

When was the last time at UK he had 4 returning players play 20 minutes a game?

Does Arkansas have a changed Cal or is he just still dating them and putting his best foot forward? Regardless that Cal wasn’t here anymore.

Let's not act like Cal did not have early season issues winning games. I remember quite a few years being preseason top 5 and then unranked by the first of the year. I am disappointed in how this team went from hammering Purdue in the first scrimmage of the year to losing to UL, MSU, and UNC at home. It is December and we have a few players out that may change things. I do not see this team cutting the nets down in March but hopefully they can gel and find a way into the NCAA tournament and then make some noise once they get in. Kinda like Cal did last year with Arky.

Another conundrum: How do you lose with 38 wins in final four, yet make it another year as an 8 seed to the final game and lose?
