If Arky is disinterested in playing defense like they were last game, they’ll get blasted. Hoping for it.
We played the first two games in the tournament with 6 players. That is it. We will have 7 tonight.
We cant play tough D. I spent 80 percent of the season thinking we had a bad D. But in reality we simply cannot play D like we are able to. Watch the last 3 minutes of the last game and see what our D is like when we lock down.

2000 was the first and only time? I could be wrong. Little lefty guard I think was the guy on that team.

the Brandon Dean tourney. And yeah, 34 seasons in the SEC and two SEC Tournament championships and two regular season championships.

sweet sixteen is their equivalent to our final four, so they won’t even be mad at losing tonight just like they weren’t mad at blowing a 15 point lead last year in the same game

What’s funny to me is, people thought he came to Arkansas to kick the can down the road. We wouldn’t hire a coach in that fashion. We get 0 respect from the outside. We are a proud bball fan base. Cal is the 3rd hall of fame coach that’s coached here and people talk about Arkansas like we’re irrelevant.

For example I hear constantly how Arizona is a “blue blood”. How exactly ? Arkansas has a better tournament history than they do, we are 6-2 all time against them. I know what Arkansas is and isn’t, but it isn’t a program that is fine with taking the back seat. We actually have a little pride. We have the most tournament wins right now of any SEC team since 2015. Is that satisfying? Sure, but we also have higher expectations than just tournament wins. We want to get to our 7th final 4. We’d like to make the title game again. We almost went back to back in 93-95.
LMFAO look at this fan of the basketball powerhouse that is Arkansas. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Your “hall of fame” coaches are well known for losing to Kentucky. One of my earliest Kentucky basketball memories was of the Wildcats promptly sending your 1978 Sydney Moncrief team home from the Final Four.

I remember how you ran your mouths when joining the SEC with Nolan Richardson, only to compile a tawdry 1-10 (lol) SEC tourney record against Kentucky and an equally pitiful 15-37 series record against the greatest college basketball program of all time.

Hell, I can almost understand you guys coming over here to seek our approval.

This! You’re right! That’s what all these fanbases do! Literally come to our board seeking approval. Been that way as long as I can remember.

They really can't play intense 2 pt defense because they'll foul out and they don't go deep at all.

It's kinda wild, This was actually a theme in Cal's later period at UK as well.

He kicked things off here with guys like Noel, Davis........2018 was the last time in his tenure here we really had good interior defense. It was a huge reason why we weren't nearly as successful in his latter years here.

Gonna be a while before Cal retires, he has Tyson, Walmart, and J B Hunt money to work with, and you guys already have Pelphrey and Heath level coaching in place. Enjoy another year of being very mediocre.
And just think, the man with all that "Chicken Man" and Walton family slave labor money backing him lost with all that future NBA All-Star talent to MARK POPE at The Pig Pen 😳 (UK fans aren't surprised, we watched him lose with NBA talent to mid teams and coaches quite a bit near the end). I gotta say, it's funny watching HAWG fans go from hating Cal and calling him a dirty, slimy cheater for decades to worshipping him like he's the second coming of Nolan Richardson. A legend for sure, but hasn't even took y'all as far as Muss did (twice) yet! Truth be told, y'all didn't hate Cal, you just wanted him to turn you out on the street corner and let you flash the goods to all the One And Dones like he was doing to us 🤣. Girl, a word of advice: watch your tone and don't ask too many questions if you lose tournament games you thought you could win, or Big Daddy might get mad and leave you with a black eye in order to keep that smart mouth of yours in check! He's a good man, Savannah, he just loses his temper some times 😅!

With all that money just flowing out of the billionaire elite state of Arkansas I'm surprised y'all couldn't attract a better football coach than what you had to settle for. A very Popeian hire tbh. Actually, you know what? Not even that good! Jerry Jones should've protested that hire like it was *ahem* a young man from a "different background" enrolling at his high school! Seriously though, y'all have been my pick to win it all in my bracket and I truly mean that. Cal is at his best fighting as the counted out underdog, and Acuff and Thomas are legit. Like I've said before it's like having TWO Kemba Walkers on the court for the same team. Arizona has good balance and of course they can win, but I don't know that they quite have that kind of firepower at the top. A coach would have to truly be a idiot to lose with Arkansas level talent!

Cal typically loses games he's not supposed to and wins games like these. Reminds me a bit of Kentucky and Ohio State with Knight and Jorts. He will have his team ready.

Posted it in another thread. He’s covered 8 straight times as an ncaa tourney underdog snd i think hes won outright 7 of those. Hes great as an underdog. Lloyd and zona better be ready.

It's simply confirmation bias to claim those things about Cal. He never quit on UK. He's the same coach now as he's ever been. Probably better because of experience? Like Pitino is a better now than he ever was.

As for Sheppard, Cal took him from a for sure 2-3 year guy to the number 3 pick. Sheppard himself says Cal is the best coach in college basketball.

Cal loved being at UK. Cal loved the UK fans. He never talked down to fans. Just because matt jones says it doesn't make it true. Cal never burned any bridges with boosters. Most of those sol called burned boosters still visit him in Arkansas and welcome him into their homes when he's in Ky.

Cal wore out his welcome here with the players first thing. But it was something he never shied from. He said it day one and he never wavered from it.

None of that has anything to do with Pope. Barney made a panic hire once his chosen man backed out. I thought it was going to turn out to be a stroke of genius. But it's not. The problem now is Barney refusing to correct his mistake.
Agree to disagree. He’s doing things at Arkansas now he refused to do here. He had his players here that were going to play no matter what to the detriment of the teams success. Wagner, Edwards and Bradshaw his last year here as an example. Sure Dillingham and Shep still saw time on the floor but there was zero reason for those two with reeves to not be on the floor together the majority of the game. A coach can have a bad year, cal had numerous with tons of talent.

On a nicer topic, the NWA area is one of my favorite areas outside of KY. Specifically Bella Vista.

Arkansas can definitely win but they play some lazzzzzzzzy defense. I think that'll be their downfall. Arizona wins 91-83 or something.

calipari has a great talent in Acuff and a talented team in general but I think their season ends tonight. Losing to Arizona wouldn't be an embarrassment either.

Spoiled fan base. Hell I would have quit on you to.
If you keep it up, Pope is going to quit on you then who you're going to get? Travis Ford?
Better ride this brief wave of average success bubba. Your coach is 100 years old. It will be back to irrelevance soon enough.

I feel Arizona is the best team in the tournament. Arkansas could win but it would be very unlikely.

We leave that to Arkansas and Tennessee fans. What we consider failure you consider success. You are here craving approval that we can’t give you.

That’s why we are and will always be better than you.

Go Arizona. I’m even more of a Cal guy. But as a Vikings fan I just had to endure the talk/stories of letting Darnold walk. This would be even worse if Cal goes on a big run

That's what I'd like to see happen. Ten is more realistic.

You people who are suddenly revisionists about John Calipari as a way of attacking Pope are delusional and pathetic.

Calipari flat out quit on Kentucky, once he got his lifetime contract, and wanted to blame the fan base -- all of us -- for the fact that he went 9-16, then lost to St. Peter's with NBA-caliber talent, then couldn't beat Jerome Tang with the National Player of the Year and an NBA guard, then decided NOT TO START two NBA lottery picks, and lost to a Horizon League team despite having about six guys drafted in the NBA and still playing there.

He screwed up Reed Sheppard's head to the point that a guy now averaging 14 ppg in the NBA looked worse than Jon Hood against some guy for Oakland who is probably a DoorDash driver today.

Calipari quit on Kentucky, and now that he wrecked our program he's putting in the effort again -- just to stick it to us and salve his own ego. That makes him a loser and a turd.

I'm not totally sold on Pope. One more year, and we'll know whether he needs to go. For that year, I might as well back him and wish him well, by way of being a faithful Kentucky fan.
But the Calipari nostalgia on this board is purely for masochists and wimps of the type who'd let someone cheat on them, steal their money, and then wish them well with a new guy.
Love the post. Spot on. Calipari is pig in more ways than one. Your comment that "Cal quit on Kentucky" is absolutely correct. Once he had used KY to get what he wanted, his focus changed and his attitude was an expectation that everyone could kiss is buttocks. Cal was just about Cal and a real piece of excrement. It's interesting that he NEVER leaves a coaching position on good terms. NEVER. He has no grace nor class. He's a classless pig. JMO.

I’m with you. I was against the Pope hire from the jump, but def happy Cal left. I will support our team next season to the best of my ability, I’ll cheer for them to win every game.
The Razorbacks WIN TONIGHT IF Nolan replaces Cal on the bench and unleashes his 40 MINUTES OF HELL!!!!!!!!!!! >:O
