Apparently saying anything positive about Arkansas during a game they played well = “I love Calipari”. The Cal derangement syndrome is real

It’s not based off this topic alone. It’s a pattern in certain posters thats very difficult to not see. And i’m not even on the board that much and sfill notice it.

The op even admitted they’re still hung up on Cal just a few posts up.

There's certainly people that do that, but on the flip side it's just as annoying when you're trying to just have an objective discussion as a general college basketball fan and if anything even remotely positive is said about Arkansas, it's "GO AWAY CAL LOVER". Like I can say Arkansas has a good team without it meaning "I love Cal" or "Arkansas is winning the championship"

I just want the “wish we had kept Cal” stuff to stop. It’s a terrible take. and from certain posters I suspect anything positive about Cal and Arkansas really just boils down to a defense of said terrible take.

The op wishes we still had Cal because they content with watching talented teams make highlight reel plays even if theyll never actually be a threat to win a title.

And i mean…i’d prefer that over what we have now because I do not believe Pope will ever win a title or get close.

But i don’t want either. I want to get a coach that can actually put a dominant team on the floor. Cal hasn’t done that in nearly 10 years now. And pope has never done that.

Okay i’m done. UK fans continueing to defend twilight era John Calipari as a viable option as a UK basketball coach is probably always going to set me off.

Carry on

I don't disagree with that, and Cal would have gotten fired midseason if he stayed at UK and we had the start to the season that Arkansas did last year. I just personally feel I can give credit where it's due without it meaning "I want Cal back" because UK and Cal moving on was always the right decision no matter what happens

I think you’re letting your anti-Cal bias get in the way here. They’re a really good team this year and Acuff is a pre-2020 Cal guard. In November they almost beat Michigan State and were down 1 to Duke with 3 minutes left. I would say they were very much a threat to those two.

Cal’s “outdated” offense is also ranked 10th in the country right now. If they can improve the defense a bit (which has been the actual problem with Cal since 2020) they’re a legit final four contender.
Yeah some games they’re looking really good and others not so much. I can’t wait to play them tho year to be honest.

cals "outdated" offense shot over 40% as a team from three the year we decided to
run him out
He switched back to the outdated offense in the Oakland game & lost, which is totally baffling considering the offense Welch installed scored a lot of points, just goes to show you how stubborn Cal is. I remember the Oakland coach saying prior to that game that we didn't have much of an inside game, I think Cal was like "ok bud, we'll beat you with our inside game" lol. For whatever reason, he scrapped the Welch offense for that game?

They’re not consistent enough to pose a real threat.

I swear some you equate making to tourney to title threat. If they make the tourney, S16, E8 you’re a title threat.

I mean hell if we’re gonna do that a team with .01% odds to win are a title threat. Technically even though it’s never happened a 16 seed is a title threat.

So let’s cut the crap. There’s been one very extreme outlier in over 30 years. 2014 Uconn. Otherwise if you haven’t accomplished a certain combination of actual on court performance standards during the course of the season you’re not winning it.

This Arkansas team isn’t doing that. They’re not capable of stringing together 5-6 strong performances in a row against tournament quality competition on a neutral court. There’s usually only 3-6/7 teams a year that are.

I promise you an arkansas team that just got waxed by middling goergia and bubble auburn teams isnr one of them.

but don’t worry, their conference schedule is soft and i’m sure theyll beat our asses because we’re not a threat either and we’re now also Calipari’s super bowl becusee he likely knows he’ll never have a real one again even if some of you still don’t despite 10+ years of evidence to the contrary. So you calipari nut gobblers will get plenty of chances to continue beating your chests over a washed coach.

/ bored rant
Cal will find a way to get outcoached, he always does, he leaves it up to his talent to make plays more than he tries to coach to win the game, we've all seen the last second plays he draws up lol. Georgia took them to the woodshed last Saturday & smart coaches always find a way to beat him in the big games, they know he just keeps doing the same things with no adjustments.

Cal was washed here. You can't hang on to a coach that has mailed it in and is tired. Winning was no longer his top priority and it showed. I think the enormous weight of this job got to him.

He was also an 11 seed last year for a reason and ended up losing in the most Cal way.

Now though, with NIL and less pressure, he's adjusted his mindset. Now he has veteran players mixed in with some star freshmen.
So, while he's a HOF coach (thanks to UK), he needed a change of scenery and was just done putting in the effort to win here.

I'll never forget the 09-19 run, but I'll also never forget his last 4 years here. He hated the fans and decided to use certain players as the rope in his tug of war with us. I wish he just played the best players, but, here we are.

Losing on purpose to stick it up our behind. Take that Bennys. This is my program. I do things my way even if it hurts the program. Now he’s in Arky with his 2010 persona giving it his everything!

So while I don’t mind thanking Cal for the first ten. He can go screw himself for the way it ended. I still love him tho. But that love won’t be the same until he retires and comes back to UK and calls us Camelot like ol Rick.

I'm not ashamed to admit that we shouldn't have ran off Cal without an upgrade or big name coach lined up as a replacement. I know a lot won't admit it, but we definitely would be better off with continuing with Cal than our chances with Pope. Cal obviously had some frustrating, stubborn coaching tendencies, but he at least assembled a team with the talent to potentially win a championship consistently. Look at Duke, they have been consistently the most talented team in the country and haven't won a championship in 10 years. I know Cal was getting stale and frustrating, but he was still our best option.

Just keep it close against a Calipari team and you've got a good chance to win in the last 4 minutes.

There have been have been plenty of people to question Deans coaching. He was widely known as the less with more king prior to Cal.
I think Smith keeps the "doing less with more" crown (fair or not) because he had better CBB players. Calipari had draft picks.
