They may not be elite but sadly, Arkansas is not a bad team. Arkansas will be a 3 or 4 seed at minimum by March.
Sutton was an outstanding coach. He just liked to drink. BCG could coach too, but he was psycho and liked to drink.
Pope cannot coach, but at least he does not drink.
Give BCG all that NIL money and he would have made Pitino's recruiting parties at Louisville look like church service. We would of had a roster of studs.
All I can say right now is, UK has got a lot of catching up to do. Got to figure out who can run point, got to practice blocking out and it just seems kinda like a mess.

Maybe they should have spent more time supporting the program during Cal's final years instead of trying to run him out of town. But, at least the Arkansas fans appreciate the fans running him out of Lexington.

Blindly supporting coaches whether it’s Pope or Cal or BCG or Tubby or anyone else is stupid. Fans don’t owe coaches anything. They were hired to do a job and if they fail to fulfill a job with high expectations then we find someone who will.
Cal was given 15 years and was not giving the results that were expected of him when he was hired in his last 5. Pope is an experiment that is nearing its conclusion if he can’t make the NCAA tournament with $20 million.

Yea that would be ok if he could show he could get some great top players in high school or top portal players to fix this year for next.. So far he's gotten a goose egg for any of those players.. And it's getting close to mid season.. This was the major flag he had on him.. Could he recruit? He never had a top 150 class ever at byu.. Last years #45 was his first.. Since then every good player said no on coming here and a few took less to go elsewhere.. So kinda hard to have hope on next year with the way its going at the moment.. I hope like hell he turns it around.. But I'm 50,, and don't like waiting.. Death is coming sooner rather than later..There is absolutely no excuse for us not having similar talent.

That is why I will admit that Pope is not the guy for the job, but to say a guy was a complete failure in a stretch where he earned the #2 seed, #6 seed, and #3 seed in the NCAA tournament is asinine. Yes, he lost to Saint Peters #15 seed. However, Saint Peters also beat the #7 seed and #3 seed Purdue in the NCAA tournament to advance to the Elite Eight. Purdue did not run their Coach off. Maybe the expectations should not only focus on a NCAA tournament wins, because it was not the focus when Pope was hired.
You are focusing on 3 games out of 3 years. He also won 71 games during that stretch. Averaging 23.6 wins a year. If those seasons were sh*t shows, you better get some toilet paper ready for the show you are getting ready to watch this year.

I brought this up after watching duke vs Arkansas and got blasted. Literally no one on our team would start for any top team.
We have no chance at all vs a great team with this roster unless these guys really come together very quickly.

You have your take on Cal and I have mine. It was the same Cal as 2014. People want to act like he did not do anything, but the 2019 team was one of the hottest teams in the country at the end of the year. However, COVID happened and the tournament was canceled. After Covid, all these players were granted an extra COVID year and then Cal's super freshman started playing against 6th year, 7th year, 8th year seniors and the game changed to an older players game. Now that we have moved past COVID and all these COVID years have expired the game is shifting back to a young talented players game.

The truth of the matter is college basketball changed a lot during that stretch and no one had patience while Cal was trying to figure it out, even though Cal still was a #2 seed, #6 seed, #3 seed during this time. Not perfect, but not terrible as some say.
In 2022, as #2 seed Kentucky lost to #15 seed Saint Peters that made it to the regional final. This Saint Peter's team also defeated the #7 seed and #3 seed before losing in the regional Final.
In 2023, as #6 seed Kentucky lost to the #3 seed Kansas State that made it to the regional final and was a 3 point short of going to the final four and they also beat Michigan State on their run.
In 2024, as #3 seed Kentucky lost to the #14 seed Oakland team that had a 24 year old 6th year senior that got hot and hit 10 three points shots. Oakland lost in overtime in the second round by 4 points when the same guy shot 6 for 17 from the field. Oakland still showed that they were a solid team, but I agree this was a bad loss. But it happens in the NCAA tournament.
