As long as our goal is 6-6 or 7-5, we will suck

our AD, a large portion of our fanbase and BOT show their true colors when they say this. All they want is butts in the seats. They don't care about competing. And rarely do universities hit their goals. So if their goal is 6 wins, where does that put them most of the time?

I don't think those were the ultimate records fans expected, but more in line with what everyone expected by Stoops' third year.

I agree with that coach. I'm speaking more of the Administration at UK. Until their goal is to win the SEC, we will never compete.

We have been so bad for so long that just getting bowl eligible is an accomplishment. In today's game you pretty much just have to win 3 out of your 9 major conference games and you go to a bowl. As bad as this team is we basically had to hand Vandy a game to keep from getting bowl eligible. We have not won 9 games in 31 years and that is hard to do. I wonder how many major conference teams have went more years without a 9 win season?

Gotcha.....I can't speak to what the AD is thinking, but you're probably correct. He'd be happy with just playing 500 ball every year.

100% agree with the OP. This program is not interested in competing for SEC championships. I just don't understand it. Our goal should be Atlanta every damn year.

Is 6-6 anyone's goal? We all want to win a championship. I'd be happy to get 6 wins, but I don't think that is anyone's goal. I think most people on here are just looking for something to ***** about. Pretty sure we all want to win the SEC.

Fair warning, I posted this exact topic a week or so ago, and got blasted by the minions of mediocrity.

That is all there is around here minions of mediocrity! Its sad really. The Goal should be SEC EAST Champ or bust! SEC EAST CHAMP will put u in College Football playoff talk if you handle your buisness. SEC EAST Champ should be goal every year and let chips fall where they May after that.

But when Towles said he thought we had the talent to get to atlanta he was blasted on here. (Turns out we probably did if we got all the lucky bounces). I don't think florida is any better than us right now.

Been saying this for a long time and it's absolutely true. The teams with the highest expectations are the ones that are successful more often than not. Even if you shoot for 10 wins and fall short you might end up with 7 or 8, but when 6 or 7 wins is your goal you are rarely going to hit that mark because you'll end up being okay with a 5-7 season. Expectations are everything in life and in sports, and sadly our football fanbase has some of the lowest expectations in all of sports and we've seen that translate to who we hire as our AD and who we hire as our head coach and what kind of standard we hold our program to. That's why it drives me crazy when we get these sunshine pumpers on here telling Kentucky fans to stop whining or that we expect too much too soon. Give me a break with that stuff. Our fans literally have the lowest expectations in all of college or pro sports, and it translates to the play on the field whether some want to admit it or not.

Ok our goal for next season is 11-1 and the ATL. How do we accomplish it OP?
You are deliberately missing the point. I wouldn't ordinarily even respond to BS like this, because you aren't here to participate in the discussion anyway, but there are some people reading this thread who should know the truth. Hiring someone like Stoops is saying you're content with 6-6 and just going to a bowl. And everybody knows Mitch gets a bonus when UK goes to a bowl. He's approaching this from a minimalist standpoint.

Then who do we hire? Give me some names that will come in here and get us competing for SEC East titles that we can get.

Jim Tressel. We can hire him for the 2017 season.

So we want to hire someone who had to cheat to win at Ohio state, lied to NCAA about return of players if they allowed them to play in a bowl game and struggled mightly against sec teams.

And won a national championship. Yes. Nobody's perfect. Hopefully Tressel has learned from his mistakes. And he only struggled at times against the best SEC teams.

It's very likely at this point that we won't get a big name coach at this program unless he's also got some baggage. Our program is foundering.
