What's wild is that was probably somehow not whistled a travel. And people say NBA refs are good lol.

Also a little side note...I love what SGA turned into here at UK...but his NBA play style is awful. It works obviously because he just won MVP and a title and may do it again this year. But still not a fan of his play style at all. I hate the foul baiting crap...but he is far from the only player who does it. He will have games when he scores like 35 or 40 points but has like almost half his points from free throws. Just gross basketball.

his fta are kind of middle of the road among mvp winners the last 30 years. i think lebron, kobe and jordan all had years where they shot more than sga. gianni’s and embiid too. as well as a few others.

He still got fouled way harder than anybody today. Plus you could hand check back then you cannot do that today.
that defensive moving alone helps to stop more players than a lot of other rules.

...this is one more thing that's wrong with the NBA.

Nothing has changed the game more than allowing cupping of the ball and extra steps. Everyone thinks todays players are just more athletic etc but let the guys in the 80's or 90's cup the ball and have changing pivot feet and they'd look like a SPACE JAM movie!!. There is nothing impressive about an ankle breaking crossover when you cup the ball, then take two steps side ways before putting it back on the floor. I can do that and I"m 63.

The game was invented with strict rules on pivoting and ball handling because without it it turns into a circus and way too easy for offensive players to do what they want to do.

also when they banned hand checking in the early 2000s. Great for shooters, bad for physical defenders.
I think the average NBA ppg went up like 10 points when they implemented that change.
And now we got guys like SGA and Brunson using foul-baiting as a primary offensive weapon, and kids watching think that's good basketball. It's so hard to watch

As a Jordan superfan, I question what the hell you were watching. Love ya, homie, but you musta been watching those games with a blindfold
if anything, he got away with using his off hand a lot of the time to push off before middy jumpers (see bryon russell shot). but even that's debatable. most star guards benefit from calls like that.
This idea that people breathed on MJ and he got marched to the line is revisionist history from fanbases that got their *sses kicked by him for a decade plus, and noobs that have to bash the past to hype up the modern game

Jordan certainly got a favorable whistle time to time, but that’s how a superstar gets treated in the NBA. This guy acting like Jordan walked across the court on clouds is absurd. Particularly in the late 80s, Jordan was getting ganged on and physically assaulted on every drive. As his jumper developed even further, he didn’t have to drive into it as much, but Jordan took as much punishment as anyone in that era. Absolutely revisionist history — that guy must be a Jordan hater.

the Pistons "defense" in that era was almost comical. just an endless swarm of Mahorns and Rodmans and Laimbeers (and the guy with the handlebar mustache whose name escapes me) trying to put you on the injured reserve list.
Being able to overcome their BS and have a big game or series against that team really is next level stuff. Like Jordan dropping a couple 40+ pt games on em in the 91 "no post game handshake" series, and the next season Ewing dropping 45 & 10 while getting fouled by Laimbeer and John Salley basically every possession. That is true perseverance.

I'll always give props to players that had to go through the Eastern Conference in the late 80s/early 90s for that reason. They experienced sh*t that players before and after really didn't.

He barely even touched him on that play, it was his momentum that caused him to fall more than anything.

Stars get the benefit because they earn it.

SGA is just a bad *** basketball player. Looking like back to back MVP at this point.

With Jocic hurt the challenger is probably Wemby now?

there are so many videos like this out there too. Jordan got a great whistle.

There were a few teams like the bad boy pistons and the knicks that existed that roughed people up.

And this is not an argument about who is the goat. It’s jordan. I’m firmly in that camp.

But if they let Jordan get beat on beat on like shaq, jokic, or even lebron(and yes Lebron is a flopper but officials also allowed a lot more contact on him because he was bigger and stronger and normal contact was likely to affect his ability to finish. the same thing happened with shaq and now jokic) we’re having a different conversation.

Great guards in general get good whistles. But the Jordan whistle in the 90’s was absolutely a thing.

Kobe got it. Harden got it. AI got it. And now shai gets it.

I’d say steph didn’t but steph is also primarily a shooter more than any great guard in history.

What i will agree with is traveling, while it’s always been bad in the nba, it’s gotten worse and it’s a joke. they barely call it anymore.

He has arguably the best footwork and one of the best handles in the league. That combination plus his size and length and iq are what make him elite.

The travel? I mean yeah that’s a thing but pick your favorite player and i can probsbly find a clip of them getting away with an obvious travel. it’s the nba. they stopped calling it almost completely.

giannis, lebron, harden, jokic, embiid, all mvps that all have clips of them getting away with egregious 4 or more step travels at some point. it is what it is.

Exactly, the NBA is a joke. Doesn't matter how many players do it, just because it's not being called doesn't mean they should do it.
