As much as I love Shai

Exactly why I can’t stand the NBA. 5th graders on Saturday mornings get called for more traveling violations than NBA players who are supposedly “the most skilled players in the world”

I’ll take the travels and the more finesse nature of the nba over the overzealous officials ruining the college game at this point.

I do miss the 90’s of both sports though.

But i love sga. I enjoy watching him. I don’t care for the foul baiting stuff. Thoigh i think that gets exaggerated when you compare his ft totals to other mvp winners. But his footwork and handle are art.

He has arguably the best footwork and one of the best handles in the league. That combination plus his size and length and iq are what make him elite.

I get the criticism of SGA, but he has one of the oddest offensive attack styles in the game, and I think a lot of the fouls he “hunts” are simply the result of his odd style and elite footwork. Not saying I enjoy it, but if he’s doing things within the rules and his style creates fouls then I can’t really say it’s “wrong”.

With that said, the current state of traveling/carrying in the NBA is a complete joke.

also when they banned hand checking in the early 2000s. Great for shooters, bad for physical defenders.
I think the average NBA ppg went up like 10 points when they implemented that change.
And now we got guys like SGA and Brunson using foul-baiting as a primary offensive weapon, and kids watching think that's good basketball. It's so hard to watch
Isn't the TERM "hand-check" literally a synonym for "physically impeding?"

SGA is great without all the flopping. Kind of like Barry Bonds being great before he got on the juice. I kind of wish he would just play, he's got so much game.

...this is one more thing that's wrong with the NBA.

I can totally get on board with criticizing the NBA no longer calling travelling. Its absurd. However shai is one of the least bad offenders in the league.

Also its important to watch the full arenas clip to get full context. He didn't say shai was as good as Jordan. He said he is similar because he can get basically anything he wants whenever he wants it. That's true, but it was worded poorly.

one more and i’ll stop.

The footwork, handle, body control and shot making are all elite. i’m telling you if you haven’t, try to watch more of him. Hes wayyyy more than the foul baiter rival fans will try to convince you he is. He is a very fun player to watch.

And at just 27 years old he already has a scoring title, 3 first team all nba selection, had lead the league in steals, an mvp, a finals mvp and a ring. And is playing for a good franchise with strong leadership in a position to win more titles over the next 10 years.

If you were one of those fans lamenting that despite our history we still haven’t had our michael jordan, well, this is probably our best chance and probably will be for a while.

Hard for me not to pull for that considering how much Michael Jordan has done for UNC’s brand and overall success.

Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time and loved his Tar Heels so much that he’d mention them frequently in the media and continued to wear UNC apparel under his Bulls jersey. Shai may be a gung-ho Wildcat for life, but I haven’t heard him mention it or get involved publicly in support. I always support former players, but I don’t think Shai will be our Jordan. I do agree with you, he’s an incredible player and people hyper-fixate on the perceived negatives far too much.

What sets shay apart is his rhythm with the basketball it creates segences in which the defender is always out of step and position while guarding him resulting in timed scoring and drawing fouls.
