Askren wrestling tonight is amazing. Regardless of what anyone feels about him the fact he is competing a year after double lung transplant is crazy. I honestly don’t understand how that is even possible.

Looked fine the first two periods, leading 3-0 on pushouts and shot clock. But had no legs the third period and got taken down thrice to lose 6-3. I think his brother gave him bad advice going into the third, wanting a takedown to get up five and cruise. Although he'd have been right if he actually scored it. Then Ben retired and put his shoes on the mat for good. Glad he went out on his own terms.
Thought Felicity gave Yepez a really good match for getting teched and shut out, it didn't come easy.
Colby and Arman was pretty equal, but Colby just slightly better at finishing. So I guess technically a fourth former Hawkeye with current RAF gold now with Blades, Woods, and DeSanto.
Caliendo looked really good thought khaytiov would give him trouble with as much freestyle as hes wrestled. Its kinda funny that I think and I could be wrong but Covington wrestled in like one dual meet for iowa and beat a freshman Quentin Wright from Penn state think it was 2009?

I'm not a doctor, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night. Simply expressing concern for a guy who was almost dead 9 months ago.
I don’t think it’s the exertion that I would be worried about. It’s more about the exposure to all the different viruses, bacteria, etc.
anyways, I think it was impressive that he competed. Glad he hung up the shoes.
I've gotta believe that the only reason he even competed in that was so that he could leave his shoes on the mat. It gave him a chance to go out on his own terms.

He said his training was hampered by a stubborn infection he was fighting for a long time when preparing for this
I hope he lives a long and productive life. I too hope he stopes wasting energy being a hater. He should plan a road trip to IC, visit with Tom and the team and have some fun. Life is too short to harbor all that angst.

Based on what little I know, I don't think he's the only one who would need to be contrite in order for that to happen.

Unfortunately, I have a relative that had a transplant within the last year. I have read the post-transplant documentation that his nephrologists have given him.
Median survival rates are in the 6-7 year range. Why not live life to the fullest. Agree that doing what he did probably made his doctors scream, but he's a competitor and has made it this far. People like him push the boundaries of what can and cannot be done and its because of these types, survival rates for people after him will be longer.
I think some might find it irresponsible considering the second chance at life he was given. Large somes of money had to be donated for this procedure to take place and someone else could have received the organs. I’m not sure how risky it was but seems riskier than not only a year or so post op. I would assume given his pedigree he would live past the 6-7 years but needing a transplant for a former Olympic athlete due to double pneumonia woujdnt be in most peoples deck of cards either.
Please tell us of your knowledge of Ben's condition, prognosis, how often you've conferred with his doctors, reviewed his chart/tests, etc. Thanks.
Ben is/was an otherwise very healthy (and relatively young) person who developed an infection leading to the need for a transplant. His long-term prognosis is far more positive than most who have lung transplants.
I suppose you stayed at a Holiday Inn last night as well?
I didn't stay in a HI, but the precautions I read put the Fear Of God in me.
