I think we can get within striking distance of 1st place next season.
I think we are all caught up in this wave right now. I 100% am excited too. I just can’t believe that over night, we seem to be podium contenders, as well as transfer and recruit options.
The PSU talking heads are saying that now it is a two horse race as legitimate futures for wrestling.
Of course, that is until the Brands are fired and replaced and other universities start making moves, imo. But for now, I love it.

I'm just excited to see how everybody does and meshes - athletes, new staff, community, etc. More interested in the process than in expected results. Going to be a long offseason lol (I feel like I say that every year though)

Some people are saying that we will contend for the runner-up at NCAA next year. Heck we were definitely in the running for that this past year. Fell short but were a very young team. I hope this works out getting us #35.
This makes the first time in 58 years that the head coach of the Cowboys will not call me by name when he sees me. Not happy about that.

Remember, Cael came in 9th (49pts, 3 AAs) his first year at PSU which was a great improvement over 17th (13pts, 2 AAs) in '08.

Some statistical analyse person should be able to say where we would finish with that kind of improvement.
Cael’s first year was a “punt” year. The team was respectable, but, the two hammers and 4 expected future hammers wore red shirts. He had one other year that he punted in order to have a juggernaut that won 4 titles.

DT is not a throw the baby out with the bath water type of guy. I’m 100% sure that he respects and reveres the history of Oklahoma State. I’m sure he will reach out to former wrestlers and long time season ticket holders . . . and not for money. One of the things Cael did for PSU is that he built an ecosystem. Not a rah-rah type at all, he quietly interacted with the wrestling community. Not all great things are built by extroverts, marketing guru’s, and MBA’s. David was at PSU for the start of Cael’s tenure and studied the man for 15 years. I have a feeling he will know your name by October.

Buddy hire?!

World champ
Olympic bronze

Buddy hire?! Come on man. Don’t forget about the system DT came from. Every coach on staff at PSU wrestles pretty much everyday. (Cody not as much)

And it’s a true collaboration with regards to “coaching” - everyone contributes to practice plans, technique, one on ones.
I missed this post earlier. Spot on. I would be disappointed if DT didn't become recruiter coordinator and head recruiter like his mentor Cael. There is no more important task in wrestling than recruitment, and when your name is synonymous with excellence in wrestling, you need to be the face of recruiting. Recruiting doesn't take time as much as it does desire. Individual coaches will likely be a part of developing recruiting needs, assist in identifying potential targets, and help in the evaluation of that talent. Because of that, individual coaches become more accountable for the wrestlers in the room and their success.

I think you'll see something similar out of DT, and the collaborative spirit.

Ohio State is still out there and Ryan is a very good recruiter. Not sure what the landscape looks like for them after his auto accident but I'd never sleep on Ohio State. That state has lots of talent.

Actually two other punt years. He punted in 2020 as well, but by the luck of the Irish, that year never happened.

A buddy of mine hosted DT on his visit and swears that we had his commitment until another assistant with a more abrasive approach told he and his family that they weren't good enough to wear orange
Who the hell was that??

Just heard through the grapevine that Zo may be sticking around. Which, if true, is awesome. A few of my former youth club kids work with him and they absolutely loved the experience. I think he's a great coach, extremely relatable, and offers a different perspective on wrestling that is really beneficial for a lot of young wrestlers who get to work with him.

Here’s a good interview with Gilman. Pretty impressive.

Edit: requires a sub to watch. My bad.

So what does he say
It was great. Here’s what he said 😊
(Apologies @Old Number Nine, you surely won’t like):

Well I'm packin' up my game and I'ma head out west
Where real women come equipped with scripts and fake breast
Find a nest in the Hills, chill like Flynt
Buy an old drop-top find a spot to pimp
And I'ma Gil-Man it up and down your block
With a bottle of scotch and watch lots of crotch
Buy a yacht with a flag sayin' "Chillin' the Most"
Then rock that ***** up and down the coast
Give a toast to the sun, drink with the stars
Get thrown in the mix and tossed out of bars
Sip the Tijuana, I wanna roam
Find Motown, tell them fools to come back home
Start an escort service for all the right reasons
And set up shop at the top of Four Seasons
Tom Gilman and I'm the real McCoy
And I'm headed out west sucker because I wanna be a

Cowboy, baby!
With the top let back and the sunshine shinin'
Cowboy, baby!
West Coast chillin' with the Boone's wine
I wanna be a Cowboy, baby!
Ridin' at night 'cause I sleep all day!
Cowboy, baby!
I can smell a pig from a mile away

Funny. I think if Taylor beats Brooks, David would have been the Hawkeyes next coach in a year or two. Timing is everything. In my opinion, down the road you all are gonna look back and be thankful how things unfolded. ME TOO. DT at Iowa would make me sick...

Define striking. I think we can battle pretty well for second place, depending on who transfers in.
I believe that with our old staff and backing I believe we could have finished 2nd with consistency. With the new staff, and much greater backing our goal of success has to be to take down Penn. St. in the next 3 or 4 years. We need 35 and more for this to be a success. The Penn. St fans will not be so supportive once we take a National Title. That will be great and with an improvement in recruiting ( which has been very good of late) and development of our wrestlers( that has not been real good) we will get 35 in that 3 or 4 year period. I am excited to see our new product and even improved recruiting and development.

If you take 1 out of 4 with PSU taking the other 3, I think we’ll be good. But if it’s 2 to 2… uh oh.

Either way, this is exciting for wrestling, and wrestling needed this.
