Horrible. I realize that today's weather sucked and all but.....just smaller crowds everywhere I've been so far (St Laurence/Hins S was decent).

You?

SCN was hosting a swim met along with a 2nd round football playoff game. There were as many people inside as there at football game maybe more. Parking lot was full 2.5 hours before the football game. Light showing for the 2nd round football game. Rain must have keep the casual fans away. SCN only had about 150 more people than SR did. Take away their band it was close to 50/50.

But the fans that were in attendance were highly spirted and friendly. Good hosts. Very nice facility. And with the heavy rains all morning and a mist throughout the game their field turf was a perfect playing surface. SCN has a good team and should not hang their heads. SR's defense just had one of their best games in the last couple of years.

First round against libertyville, attendance was pretty pathetic. Buffalo Grove traveled well down to ESL. I'd say half of the visitor side was filled and 3/4 for the Flyers. Most fans seem to wait for the big time games with the most hype. I'd venture to say ESL vs Mount Carmel at Gately, may bring all the band wagoners and then some. Big time, anticipated quarterfinal game in 7A. I expect a huge crowd for both teams.

No one was at the LA game on either side. It also seemed like there were very few students on the Barrington side Friday night.

Palatine crowd was decent but definitely down over the last couple of years. 3PM on a Saturday doesn't attract the same as the Friday night crowd.

Weak turn-outs, particularly from the 2 home teams, at the 7A and 5A games I attended yesterday. in the Southland.

Naz's turnout wasn't bad, but Danville didn't travel too well. And the Lemont turnout was disappointing. More porkchop sammiches for me, I guess.

Great crowd for Sterling at Kaneland I thought. Good to see all of the tailgating and the band was there as well.

Saturday games tend to have lower attendance. I understand Saturday games for teams that have to travel far. But if teams are less then a 45 minute ride they should play on Friday. It's called Friday night lights for a reason.

Decent crowd at CG/PR but expected even more based upon PR’s proximity to CG and the rivalry between these two schools. Nothing like past playoff games at CG. Never rained either, just a little mist from time to time.

Perhaps CG fans got the Beth Long memo to not bother showing up, LOL.

I thought Naz was down a bit.

I think it's due to too many teams in the playoffs already and the internet. The IHSA had it perfect years ago with only 6 classes. It seemed like all the games were great then. How many total playoff teams back then?? 192??? Need to go back to that.

Does anyone know why IHSA charges $5/head? Like have they ever charged less for students/senior citizen, found out this was too hard then made the change to a straight $5? Or has it always been that much?

Seems like students, much less a casual fan with a couple kids, are going to have a hard time paying $5 a head to get into a game. Add in the so/so weather and it adds to the problem. I'd like to see them allow kids in for free with their students ID's.

A lot of really good college games to compete against yesterday.

Benet/Rockton had decent crowd for Saturday night in the fog.

I had the privilege of attending the St. Charles East vs. Lincoln Way East Game on Saturday. What a great game! The Saints played their hearts out and came up just short. There were many gritty performances on both sides of the ball.

Attendance - maybe 1,000. That's probably a high est.

IMO the students like to go to Friday night games, many for the social aspect. Many also work weekends as well. I know my granddaughter was heavily involved in student activities and went to every Friday night home game, but never went to a playoff game.

Bowie:

I agree. Although I understand the imperfect weather drove some fans away, it's a playoff game and one would think it would draw better crowds.

Since I am so lazy, I often get to a LA home games late and am forced to stand along the fence, but yesterday our whole group had the privilege of sitting in the stands.

Those stands were wet. My 8 year old and his buddies from his PAFA (Palatine) team took a picture with Jake Marwede. They were in Awe and Jake was so kind! I think they are converted Ramblers for life. Sorry Vikings and Pirates!

Attendance wasn’t overly impressive at Provi this weekend. Normal West didn’t fill half the bleachers, and pretty sure our stands had some seats empty.

I have said that and written that for years. They should at least let the kids in for free for the first couple of rounds.

Pretty bummed this weekend. I had thought with all the Saturday games last week that we'd get a handful of Friday Night Games since neither team got an advantage of an extra day off as would be in the case of say Nap Central v MS.

Looking at 8A, NC @ MS is a no-brainer Saturday game. Oswego @ LWE could've been Friday night. Hour drive leaving now, add 20 minutes to half hour for Friday afternoon traffic. Minooka @ E'ville obviously Saturday. LA @ Marist 2 hour drive on Friday can't blame them for staying with Saturday.

Looking at 7A LZ @ SR see LA @ Marist reason. ESL @ MC of course Saturday. Benet @ Lincoln way Central should be a Friday Game 34 minutes leaving now, hour tops Friday. Batavia @ Lincoln way west pretty much same as Oswego and LWE.

So the all the Lincoln ways could've done Friday but that wouldn't help attendance but maybe one on Friday night, one 1pm on Saturday and one at 7pm Saturday would've been the best split.

6A could've had PC @ StL Friday 45 mins opposite way of Friday traffic. And Willowbrook has the same 1hour and a half trip Friday night as Saturday. I'm not too in tune with traffic patterns out that way so I could be wrong about that but both schools seem west enough to avoid major congestion but like I said I could be way off.

Winners of those Friday night games would have a distinct advantage going into the semi finals. I could've seen myself, as well as a bunch of other south siders, giving the IHSA my $15 and seeing PC at StL Friday, ESL @ MC if it was at 1pm on Saturday and LZ @ SR at 5pm. But they'll just have to settle for my $5 at the LZ SR game.

I believe the IHSA rule is all games are scheduled at 1pm Saturday unless a different time is mutually agreed upon. If a time can't be agreed upon, the IHSA arbitrates. Correct me if I'm wrong. I really think this year from what I've seen and heard has to hit them where it hurts. If I were them, I would say all games are scheduled for Friday at 7pm (at least 5A to 8A) Then obviously easy switches can be made for travel problems to Saturday, or no lights for home team, or teams that had one less day of recovery and prep due to the prior week's schedule could move to Saturday too. This would ensure a healthy bank of games on Friday with greater student attendance than Saturday games. This weekend's a mess added to the lightly attended first two rounds.

I️ agree, need to have a significant number of games on Friday. Saturday you end up competing against the college games for attendance and on TV.

I think the IHSA should sell a $5 weekend pass to see as many games as you want to attend over the weekend.

Something to help attendance but I'm not for it is beginning at the quarterfinals have multiple games at the same venue like Benedictine College, NIU, ISU, Wheaton College and ect

If you look at the number of viewers on the online portals, there are more fans than ever. We're not going back to the days of where you had to attend to have any idea of how the game happened.

Of course, the Cube and the other streams have been known to go on the fritz ... so if you're a true fan you show up.
