I use an app called Hoopla, which is free. You have to be signed up at the local public library to use, and I'm guessing there's not as much selection as Audible (never used it), but there are way more books than I'll ever be able to listen to, many of them newer releases. You can listen to up to ten per month. I've been very happy with it.
I share the account with my wife. She always steals the credit you get for some silly book club book. But there are enough good free titles that keep me interested. That said, I've purchased some good ones that were well worth it. Some top picks:
Into Thin Air
Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage
The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich (this is like 60 hours of audio for 1 credit). Fantastic book by a German journalist who was there. It puts to rest all the "Hitler was good at first" crap as well as shows how the Nazi controlled media would hype up a crime against a German in say Austria as an end of the world event, but completely ignore a more severe crime against a Jew, which, if you are paying attention, is happening today (e.g., George Floyd).
