For the first round bye in MLB playoffs, I know it's AL #1 and AL #2, but do you have to win your division to get that AL #2 spot?

Asking because the top 2 teams are both in the AL East. Hypothetically could the Yankees and Orioles (both AL East) take up both byes?

This new postseason format was implemented starting with the 2022 season. The two division winners with the best record in each league receive byes to the Division Series.

Hopefully the Royals finish this sweep today at 1210p CST over CLE to take the solo lead in the AL Central.
