Doesn’t get any better than this. Can’t imagine how down they were following the Pitt game. So many were counting them out. What a remarkable job by CCC and staff to keep his team focused and prepared to play!

Love to see the joy.

This was probably better than the ‘79 win. I know that one had Earvin, but this one we basically led wire to wire and dominated.

That winter of ‘79 was crazy, too. The snowiest and coldest in Chicago’s history. I’m convinced half of that MSU team probablygot stuck in a snowdrift.

We dominated in the '79 game too. Couldn't miss a shot. Led by 20 at the half and never were threatened. We came into the game 0-8 in the Big Ten so it was pretty much a one-off game. This win might propel us to a good season. We will see.

I remember waking up totally hung over in my fraternity right before tipoff, and listening to the game on WNUR up till halftime. Forced my butt out of bed and walked up to McGaw Hall to watch the second half. I think that was the last game that Magic Johnson lost as a collegian. . .

Yep, MSU ran the table to the NCAA title after that. Interestingly, the Spartans lost four games that season, three by four points or less and ONE 18POINT blowout at the hands of last place Northwestern.

Shows you that even all-time great players have mental lapses against inferior competition.

I distinctly remember Jud Heathcote sitting on the bench, late, holding his head in his hands, not even bothering to continue screaming at his players. Not a lot of great moments in Wildcat sports during my time in Evanston ('75 to '79), but that game was certainly one of them.

Another one...

The best thing about this video for me is that Robbie Beran was right at the door and the first to pour water on CC. Beran appears to perhaps be favoring one leg...but it seems that the injury is not so bad if he would risk being a part of the celebration with people jumping around, bumping into one another and so on.

In reading up on NUs first ever win at Assembly Hall in 2009, this year's version of the Wildcats certainly knows how to celebrate a victory better:

"I just found out about it," Carmody said in his postgame news conference. "We hadn't won here, really? My graduate guy just told me that."

It didn't take long for Carmody to share the news.

Afterward, he walked back to the locker room and informed his players, who celebrated in the typical low-key Northwestern style.

There was no dancing or jumping around when the final buzzer sounded, though nobody would have blamed them, and when they emerged from the locker room, all smiles, they had to correct reporters' memories.

"Since 1968," Moore said after being asked about 1966. "Coach Carmody just told us in there."

Little to no emotion...just like their head coach.

And just think if you had not gotten your a8s out of bed. You would have kicked yourself ever since then

Plenty of HoF coaches known for being stoic (or some would say - being cool, calm and collected).

Glad that after a few difficult years, the older guys on the team are getting to enjoy themselves now.
