Morgan goes out and Davis is forced to guard Pardon. Northwestern responds by not getting him the ball in the post the last three and a half minutes. Just awful.

Duly noted that was the obvious place to go. It looked like with about a minute to go, one of the wings had a perfect pick and roll with Pardon breaking free with no defender within sight of the lane, and put up a highly contested 2 from the top of the key.
At the end of the day, the team was much more competitive than i would have expected playing in Assembly Hall. Sure they missed an opportunity to feed the ball to Pardon several times when Morgan was out. Not sure i put that on the coaches because it was simply that obvious. But give them credit for playing a strong team concept throughout the entire game. They simply need someone other than law to play with that killer instinct and desire to win the game - both to close out games, and to close out the shot clock.

There were some shots taken quicker in the clock because guys thought they were open...and maybe due.

You are correct! What a joke! Have Ash get the vaba to Pardon! Did u see Ash get a couple turnovers and then dish the ball inside to Dererk? Just poor decision making. I hope Ash gets healthy soon or our goose is cooked!
I missed the game. How did he get 24 points if guys weren't getting him the ball??
The complaint is that,without Morgan, who was hurt late, we didn't get him the ball down the stretch (although Morgan was getting roasted by Pardon arguably wprse than the other guys were, imo). .
I like Turner, and think he needs to start,just not at point guard. You need Greer or Ash on the floor at all times. Preferably Ash. Gaines isn’t a point guard or passser also. We are close. We win this game and we are top twenty five ranked! Dang!
Completely agree ... shot selection within the last 2 minutes of the game was poor and Turner’s three-pt shot versus pass to Pardon rolling to the basket would have had us up 2 prior to Langford’s game winner. On a positive note team hung with a very good IU team and (as folks have been saying) B1G is going to be great this year

Check the video. When Ash was in late in the game he caused a turnover on their best player. Plus he placed the ball down low to Pardon for an easy, pedestrian two point layup!
Collins has chosen to play a lineup that lacks a point guard as opposed to playing Ash. That speaks volumes.
Going into today's game, I wondered if Pardon was seeing the ball enough.

As for the coaching, I was thinking the quite the opposite. Yes, the stretch wasn't great.
But do you think these teams have comparable foundational talent? Collins and the team did a good job making this a game. Let's hope the Cats can find someone besides Law and Pardon.

112, agree with you that this game was the best in terms of getting Pardon the ball. Want to say that while I've harped on that, this team may be the most unselfish with the ball I've seen. They move it around very well.
And Indiana's talen has moved up a level. Best talent IU has had in years and years and the cupboard fills again next year. Two, maybe three NBA players.
How big was the step up....JR Smith played less than half the game.
For their big man to score as easily as he did says it all. Just a beast. And Langford is a one and done. Supremely skilled and athletic.

It's really enjoyable to listen to the sage comments of Joey Meyer on the radio broadcasts. He said Pardon should get a touch every trip down the court. Derek can obviously score underneath, and that threat will open up better looks for the three point shooters. I like this team a lot.
Joey also said in the post-game presser with Collins "you guys are really good!".
Pardon's also a good passer. He takes care of the ball. That's why I didn't understand why more wasn't going through him until yesterday.
The only thing that concerns me about Pardon on offense is when he gets double-teamed (which isn't a huge percentage of time.) He still hasn't recognized that a skip pass across the court usually is the first of two passes to get a very open look.
I did not see the game since as I was driving to Indy. It is nice to say they should just get the ball to Pardon and that might be the intent, but the D (in this case, the Indiana D) can also have a lot to say about that.
Could be injury and/or faith in Turner.

I agree with you though, it is a no brainer. But Collins falls in love with only 1 guy at the end and isolates. We lost alot of games isolating and clearing out for Crawford, then BMC, and now with Law. Btw, Law looked gassed during the last break, bending over. He lost his legs and even had one blocked as he couldnt jump.
Pardon would have had 40 pts.

Did u see the way Jordan Ash dished the ball perfectly to Pardon's left hand for an easy two point layup with 6 minutes left in the game? Ash needed to pass the ball to Law,not Turner! Collins brainfart.

Law should take the last shot the majority of the time because he is NU’s best player. If he isn’t shooting it, he should have the ball in his hands drawing multiple defenders and then and only then dishing. If he doesn’t draw the defenders, he shoots. You don’t need to be ole man Collins to know this.
I agree Law is the best player. He has D and O. But is Law the best offensive player? Not sure I agree here. Pardon has really developed his offense.
Agree. The problem is, it takes time to get the ball into Dererk and for him to work a shot. If the clock is running down he won't always be the best option.
