Surprised no one has posted this yet. Larry Scirotto is a B1G men's BB referee. He was just recently fired from his position as Chief of Police in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He had only been on the job for 6 months (was a retired Assistant Chief in Pittsburgh) after multiple employees filed discrimination complaints. He allegedly made diversity hires based on "who is blacker" for minority applicants for Captain positions, while completely discounting other candidates because of their skin color.

He did not work any B1G games this past weekend (I think he also works other conferences). Wonder if he will work the conference tournament.

I guess you're not just handed the "biggest joke of a conference ever to exist" mantle

rent on that title is due every day, apparently

Isn't being the police chief for a city that size a full-time job? I would have passed on hiring him when I found out he was going to be mostly out of town five months out of the year, refereeing college basketball games.

Reminds me of a high school principal here in Colorado a few years ago. Someone ratted him out to the Denver Post for being absent about 3 days per week during the BB season, because he was out of state officiating college games. He argued that he made up the hours in the summertime, which didn't play very well in the court of public opinion.

In one of the articles I read, they indicated his absence to referee BB games was brought up and that probably contributed to his firing. I am sure they knew this during the interview process but it appears he was brought in despite that because he checked off several intersectional categories.

Yeah, this is the new "work from home" scam as well...people working two "full time" jobs from home because well, you can!

I saw a photo of this guy in one of the articles - he's on TV almost every night reffing a game somewhere. How on Earth could a fairly large city hire him to be its police chief? Seems like a hard job to do remotely, in your spare time.

And I think he was canned from his last cop job as well!

How is this a “scam”. If you have the ability to perform your job duties for both that’s all that matters right?
Well, look at it this way.

You work for Company A and you have to actually be in the office all day, like regular people did back in the day.

You go to your boss and say "Hey, I am also going to work full time for Company B, so I will just "get my work done" here and then leave, and go to Company B to get my work done"

That is not flying.

So, can it be done? Of course. Is it scamming, sure.
I don't care, I would do it!

Not to most companies.. if you have two full time jobs they will view this as stealing time.
Unless you are a fireman...then you can be a full time fireman and run a lawncare business and a moving business and be a real estate agent.

Unreal

Teachers too

turns out if you only have to work 2/3 the year, you can find other things to do with your time

Not when you don't enforce the laws on the books...
