It was a competitive Big Ten season, but I think the conference wasn’t as good as we all like to say it was. It was certainly very deep, with a ton of parity. But I would say the top 25% of the conference didn’t seem to be nearly as strong as the top 25% of the ACC or SEC.ACC 10 first round picks. B1G 2 first round picks. YesI don’t follow the NBA much, but were a lot of those guys Dukish one-and-dones?
B1G builds its strength very differently when compared to the ACC.
shows you how difficult it is to recruit NBA guys
Surprised about Matthews.
Gaines is already there.I’d settle for NU consistently bringing in guys who could start on most other Big Ten teams, and then perhaps working its way up to NBA players.
Feel like so far among CCC recruits, the guys who would fit that initial description are limited to BMac, Lindsey, Law and Pardon.
Gaines might get there when all is said and done. And then hopefully the four 4-stars, Kopp, Nance, Beran, Bamisile.
Don’t feel too glum.Yale had a guy go in the 2nd round. That stings a little.
Genuinely asking here because I’m curious (and it’s the offseason and this is tailor-made offseason debate stuff), which teams do you think he’d be able to get a starting spot on?Gaines is already there.
Good question. TOS just did a ranking of each position coming into the 2019-2020. Gaines ranked 14th (last) for big ten PG’s. The problem he isn’t a PG. Turner was 9th at SG. I think Gaines matches up well with Turner. If you buy that, Gaines could potentially start at PSU, Michigan, Minnesota, Purdue, Rutgers, and Nebraska. Reading the bios of the starters (some haven’t played a minute yet) he appears to fit in.Genuinely asking here because I’m curious (and it’s the offseason and this is tailor-made offseason debate stuff), which teams do you think he’d be able to get a starting spot on?
It’s obviously hard to project since we don’t really know what quality of talent teams are bringing in, but I think Nebraska for certain, because I legitimately have no idea who’s even on their team anymore. Probably Iowa if Bohanan is out for the year. Without doing an in depth analysis, I don’t know if there’s anywhere else that Gaines definitely starts?
That seems reasonable. I think we could agree to disagree on a few, but there’s no way to know how some of the incoming recruits on other teams will translate vs an established junior. For example, OSU has a monster class coming in and I suspect by December once some of those kids get established you may find that they don’t belong on the list above. But as of now it’s all TBD.Good question. TOS just did a ranking of each position coming into the 2019-2020. Gaines ranked 14th (last) for big ten PG’s. The problem he isn’t a PG. If you consider Gaines a SF, you probably add OSU, Wisconsin and Iowa to the list. Kopp beats out the OSU and Wisconsin entry for SF Kopp ranks 12th, Gaines starts over Kopp right now.
I don’t know all of these guys so I won’t argue with you if you think it is inaccurate, but based on this I would say Gaines has a legitimate shot to start on at least half the big ten teams next year.
Aren't many of the guys powering that tough season underclassmen?ACC 10 first round picks. B1G 2 first round picks. This is after one of the toughest B1G seasons in recent memory.
