Myles Johnson wants to go the west coast to do graduate work in electrical engineering. May be Stanford bound

Thanks for putting together this list. Do you think we are potential landing spot for any of these players?

I've heard talking heads speculate this transfer market will be a bit crazy and slow. They believe it will be longer and slower than usual b/c recruiting is so disjointed this year. The pandemic did not allow coaches nearly as much interaction with recruits. So the conventional wisdom question is would a coach rather take a chance on a high school kid, or see if it works out with a transfer who has a track record in college.

Here's the speculation on the worst part from the talking heads. Next year's transfer market will be even more bananas b/c this year's class will be committing to schools often without visiting and without really knowing the staff.

I'd be shocked. We are not a fun place to play basketball right now.

Agreed, but we can offer tons of playing time. A kid like Joe Bamisile from Virginia Tech might take a second look right after being stuck on the bench all year.

True.

I don't fathom a world where Carr would even remotely consider it. Kid was, at a point, a late second round possible pick. His stock has dropped with the MN demise. So he has big ambitions to fulfill. NU is not the place to get you in draft considerations.

Seasoned players in the portal: I doubt any of them sees that with their addition next season would be successful. That's not fun

Young players, like Bamisile... Maybe. Because they could see themselves as a part of an upward program. But they'd have to believe in the coaching staff. Followed by believing said coaching staff will be around for their tenure. I'm not sure how a kid can believe that right now. A new coach would probably make us much more attractive in the portal.

Brockington has announced he's staying at Penn State. This is all pretty much a pattern — teams that have not done well or have a coaching change (often both) usually have more people in the portal. Teams that have done well — not so much.

Eastern Washington’s Tanner Groves, who put up 35 points against Kansas in the NCAA tournament, and his brother who scored 23, both joined the portal today. Will be interested to see where they land. Two good bigs for the right fit.

Oof. Now that’s a punch in the stomach for a fan base.

Yeah being a successful team at the Big Sky levels is a double-edged sword. Very quickly other programs take your coach and best players. The mood on the EWU website went from euphoria over playing Kansas tough to despair in days.

List is updated. Brockington is off the list. But 4 others joined. So total went from 30 to 33. New players are in bold.

Dunno if we’re talking incoming B1G transfers but MSU just got Northeastern’s Tyson Walker. Sophomore PG averaged 19 and 5 and dropped 27 on UNC earlier this season.

Wouldn’t be a shock to see the Groves follow their coach to Portland, but after the way they showed against KU maybe they’re thinking bigger.

See the above post. Apparently, MSU recruited over him, getting a point guard from Northeastern who would be in the same class (Sophomore)
But Rocket is a 2-guard who tried to learn to play point. The NE guy is a true PG.

1,061 players in the portal, an all-time record. Just a few years ago there were just ~800 kids on average.

1122 as of this morning. That's, on average, over 3 players per team.

Oh, and Pete Nance is in the portal.
