Magnificent.
Let me warn you if you are prudish this movie probably very nearly was x-rated. Let's get it right out in front that you will have quite a bit of raunchiness so if such things offend you then steer clear.
Multiple Oscars are on the way. Best Actress for Margot Robbie for sure. Music drives this movie in wild bursts of Jazz brilliance and should easily win for Musical Score. Cinematography should be a lock as the picture is gorgeous to look at. Those three should be locks.
This is a big picture. It feels like the old Hollywood the film so obviously admires. The exploration of the change in movie making from the Wild West days of silent film when a circus surrounded the entire film production into the elaborately controlled movie sets once sound was introduced was very interesting as it's something I never really thought about. Once sound was introduced then every nuance of flimmaking had to be tightly controlled as the slightest sound ruined the shot.
Margot Robbie is a knockout in anything she does, of course. Brad Pitt has never looked better in a man calm amidst a sea of complete chaos who always seems to have the right thing to say. If you can go to a movie to appreciate fine acting, drop dead beautiful cinematography, and a blistering almost rock-jazz score then you definitely want to see this one but for sure leave the kids home and maybe the grandparents, too.
