Sergio Leone says hi. Those 3 would be my pick (personal favorite). But from a continuous story standpoint, laid out over 3 movies . . . the only thing that even competes with Future in that regard? Original Star Wars trilogy, Godfather movies... ? can't think of anything else. Mad Max was sort of a continuous story.

I've been thinking of making my kids watch the BTTF trilogy. My 9 year old son will probably love them.

Why does Netflix only have 2 and 3 but not 1? BS.

To the OP, my money goes to the LOTR for the best trilogy of all time. Godfather would be if 3 wasn't garbage.

Best trilogy ever net even close

Being likin’ #3 the most hear recently
Part 2 is the best. It's got the future, an alternate present, and I especially love the way it played with the first ones third act. The only negative was the oppressive tone. I like party 3 the least but it's most people's favourite sequel.

Part 1 is on Netflix, I watched it last night.

As to your kids, my niece and nephew are 11 and 8 and love the movies.

Yep, I see all three on there now. I swear it wasn't there this weekend when I looked, but then again, I've been drinking a lot more lately.

Godfather built up such a lead in the first 2 they still win in my opinion.

The true weak spot is not BF3, it is the second half of BF2. The future is great but going back to 1955 again is weak sauce.

The true answer would be the Lord of the Rings but it is 3 parts to the same story filmed at the same time so I'm not sure it counts.

Return of the Jedi is not trash. It's a great movie that just had the unenviable task of following Empire which is one of the greatest movies ever made.

The Bourne trilogy is one of the few examples where each movie is superior to its predecessor.

The Dark Knight trilogy is way up there too. I have a few issues with Rises but it is still very very good.

It definitely counts.

First of all, every trilogy is three parts to the same story. Three acts if you put it in stage play terms.

Second, it was adapted from 3 separate books.

The Hobbit, on the other hand, is not a trilogy IMO because it was a single book.

It was adapted from 3 separate books that were only 3 separate books because Tolkien's publisher made him split the one book in 3.

I'll contend that the first movie of most movie trilogies stand on their own as an individual movie thus not being the same narrative structure as the sequels.

BTTF is my all-time favorite movie. We started Family Movie Night back in March and my 5-year old asked to watch BTTF 2 weeks ago (I have the movie poster in my office). He enjoyed it (although probably a little over his head right now).

In 2015 they played all 3 in a row in theaters and I went ... long but a fun experience.

1st one was awesome. 2nd and 3rd are among the worst MCU movies
You know I thought that too. But me and the wife watched all of them again before Endgame and for some reason I enjoyed them a lot more then. It was like they weren't as bad as I remembered. Not sure why though.

Fair point.

In that vein, I will now submit for discussion the Indiana Jones trilogy (the Shia Lebouf one doesn't count) and the Die Hard trilogy (only the 1st three count). Both would be in my top 5.

My son had never watched them, so we've watched the first two and he really enjoyed them.

At first he wasn't too keen on watching the first one, saying he thought it sounded "dorky", lol, but he is 15 after all.
