A big time recruit will look at
1) is this school a good fit for me
2) do I get my nil money
3) do I get exposure
4) would the coaching staff develop a relationship with me,
5) does the coaching staff has a track record to get players better and help them to get to the next level
6) education
7) playing time
Etc.

For every player the order and weigh of this decision factors are different.

Pope really has his hands full now. No way recruits are watching this mess and eager to play here. Better get the NIL money up or this is gonna be a long 3 years. And yes, I say 3 years because he won’t last longer than that unless something changes drastically. Never won in the tournament or anything substantial and no track record putting players in the NBA. Major issues in Lexington.

I don't think recruits care these days. I mean Wilson choose the 13-10 Cheats. It's all about that paper. Kentucky better get with it and start buying the top guys.

I'm sure money has a lot to do with it but he was going to be paid well wherever he went.
I mean he went to UNC not East Carolina.
Whether UNC is 13-10 or 26-0, he's not on that squad.
He won't be playing with RJ and Ian Jackson.
Next year is next year and I'm sure in his 17 yr old mind he thinks they'll be good and probably because of him.

Maybe he still thinks the UNC roster will be better than what UK puts on the floor. These kids are chasing the money bag but also going to Universities that have a big name and good chance of winning in most cases…not all but most.

I don’t disagree on the injuries but every team has potential to deal with that. No one gave Cal a free pass for the injuries we dealt with then and Pope unfortunately won’t get that either. I hope Pope can have a great amount of success in the portal with the right NIL funding because there isn’t much on this years team with the ability to return that I think will be a huge help next season. It’s part of the risk of taking an unproven coach, can’t land big time players solely based on his name and track record. I don’t think he is sitting on 10 years to get this right, need to have some tournament success within the first few years or probably won’t last long here.
