The stuff about having to pay money back or the school that takes him having the pay it back:

It's a perfect idea on paper. Everyone should do it. As it stands, I don't *THINK* you can. My understanding is: You can't tie NIL to pay for play. To spell it out in writing would be begging for the NCAA to come at you.

For sure, just thought I’d post what was said. If it’s true they have been on him this long, I’d take that as a good sign he’s finally entered. I’m still not sold on him leaving and just not negotiating a better deal but he could see Auburn is gonna be down a little and sees UK will be pretty good.
Amazing how quick we all forgot about Wilkerson once some of these other guys jumped in the portal lol.

Good call! That’s the key, no one knows if it would be enforceable.

There are other good options at the position and CBM may not be the No.1 option now that things have opened up. I can’t wait to see how it shakes out tho. Portal season is both fun and cruel.
Seems like trying to enforce that would kill their recruiting . What kid would want to go there and be potentially sued.

Pope knows these players better than we do…and we already know fit matters to him. I think fans assuming we have a better handle on what Pope can work together than he does is probably not accurate. Let’s wait it out and see.
I really do agree with all of that. Well see how it plays out. Again, there are others available that I'd take before him and I'll support the team either way. I'll support him...cautiously.

It’s enjoying season. It’s gratitude season. It’s returning to the days of glory season. We need to enjoy this because I can bet you plenty of you look back on 1990 and 1991 with fondness. The dam is about to break and it’ll be these “dog days” that’ll lead that way back.

Exactly!

The talent is there but dude rubs me as a chemistry concern.

If Pope feels he can harness his crazy streak then wonderful but don't nuke the locker room because our eyes got too big or we are feeling hungry to fill out the roster.
What team did he wreck?

The guy has a few warts but you can't deny his ability. He's the guy you love to hate on the opposing team but love to have on your team. Him and Garrison would give us a couple of guys who are streetfighters and those attributes can help you win big.

I trust Pope so if he wants him I say go get him. I would personally be willing to pay him more than Wilkerson since he has a good resume. Just my two cents.
Jamal Magloire comes to mind when I see Baker play. Nothing wrong with a little vinegar in your greens.

Stop with this. Name me a time that Magloire, or any other UK player that played with an edge, was ejected from games for cheap shotting people in the back of the head? Or being thrown out of tourney game because of a cheap shot? I’ll hang up and listen…

Didn’t see this posted….this article touches on the buyout CBM is on the hook for if he leaves. Apparently it is about 60% of his $1.1 Million.

Also, it has been suggested, but this confirms that he entered the portal due to Auburn offering a recruit almost double what he was getting and it pissed him off. Jealousy has to be one of the biggest issues facing coaches and teams now. These kids better get used to it. There will always be people who have more, but I get it. He’s 25 and likely not a pro prospect, so this may be his last chance to make a big chunk of money playing.

It makes no sense why they would have paid him out 60% of next years salary this early to me.

Could have been trying to get ahead of the potential July deadline where everything may have to go through a more bureaucratic process to determine fair market value on NIL agreements. Just a hunch, no direct knowledge.

Possibly, the article said he signed the deal to come back but he had to know someone like him would be valued more than that. He tried to renegotiate a deal I assume to the level that Hall made 2.2 million but they wouldn’t do it. Just shows that you better take care of your current stars the way you would who you are trying to get or else this happens. I think Pope was very smart in how he paid our guys with Oweh getting the largest chunk of money based on his previous years here.

Wish we would give him a big chunk of money and let’s roll. Would be a fan favorite before the season was over. We’ve had players sulk and literally quit the team. A player with a little fire in him won’t hurt us.

Exactly. He clearly had taken a discount to stay there. It’s no surprise he felt betrayed by it IMO. Pearl gotta be more savvy going forward.
